This graph shows the variation in average daily traffic for the last 12-month period relative to the previous 12-months. The average daily traffic from February 218 to January 219 was 3.7% higher than the average from February 217 to January 218. Four States added more than 5 flights per day to the European local ii traffic growth. These four states accounted for 45% of the local traffic in Europe. Germany was the top contributor and added 254 daily flights owing to its dynamic internal flow (+36 flights/day) as well as its flows to and from Spain (+41 flights/day) and Turkey (+27 flights/day) mainly. Spain (excl. Canary Islands) came next and added 234 daily flights partly due to its strong internal flow (+51 flights/day) along with its flows to and from Germany (+41 flights/day), Italy (+25 flights/day), UK (+2 flights/day), Austria (+17 flights/day) and Canary Islands (+13 flights/day). Italy was the third contributor to the network and added 121 daily flights owing to its internal flow (+29 flights/day) and to its flows to and from Spain (+24 flights/day), Germany (+15 flights/day) and UK (+15 flights/day). Austria contributed to the extent of 77 extra flights per day due to its strong international arrival/departure flow which was up 11% with main increases in its flows to and from Spain (+17 flights/day), Germany (+13 flights/day) and Italy (+9 flights/day). On the negative side, Sweden saw 32 fewer flights per day owing to its weak internal flow which decreased by 6.3%. The low-cost segment had the fastest growth and recorded an increase of 5.7% (+42 flights/day). The charter segment was up by 5% and was followed by the traditional scheduled segment which grew by 3.2% and was the main driver of growth with 442 additional flights per day. The All-Cargo and Business Aviation segments declined by 6.5% and by 3.4% respectively. The top five external partners in average daily flights on flows in both directions were the United States (823 flights, up 4.3%), the Russian Federation (729 flights, up 7.1%), the United Arab Emirates (35 flights, up 4%), Egypt (259 flights, up 23.7%) and Qatar (23 flights, up 9.2%). The airlines which added the most flights to the European network on a daily basis compared with January 218 were Ryanair (+124 flights), easyjet UK (+8 flights), Eurowings (+49 flights), LOT (+45 flights) and Vueling (+42 flights). 4 Seven of the top ten airports had positive traffic growth. Overall, the largest traffic increases in January 219 were at Berlin/Tegel, Palma de Mallorca, Düsseldorf, Vienna and Athens airports. The largest traffic decreases were at Ankara, Toulouse/Blagnac, Paris/Orly, Geneva and Stockholm/Arlanda airports. The increase of traffic in Berlin/Tegel airport is partially due to the opening of new routes. The traffic changes in Vienna, Düsseldorf, Berlin Tegel and Palma can be partly attributed to airline failures in 217 creating opportunity for start-up carriers and existing competitors to increase frequencies. Nine of the top ten aircraft operators flew more compared to January 218. The operators with the highest traffic growth were Binter Canarias, European Air Transport, LOT-Polish, Olympic and Norwegian Air International airlines. The highest traffic decreases were recorded by Loganair, Aegean, Flybe, Netjets and HOP. The traffic variation of Vueling follows an increase in fleet size, following the introduction of the A32Neo to their fleet. LOT Polish Airlines also saw additional flights with s and Embraer 19 aircraft join their fleet. Binter Canarias 31% increase in flights was also attributed to new aircraft deliveries. NM Monthly Network Operations Report - Analysis January 219 TLP: WHITE Page 4

5 The Casablanca, Sevilla, Barcelona, Canarias, Lisbon and Madrid ACCs variation is due to increased traffic on the South/West axis. High growth figures in Bremen and Palma are most probably explained by the cessation of both Monarch and Air Berlin operations suppressing traffic levels which have since recovered. However, the highest relative traffic increases in January 219 were in Skopje, Yerevan, L viv, Palma, Ljubljana and Zagreb ACCs. Traffic increase in Ukraine is partially due to an increase in overflights. The traffic decrease in Istanbul airspace is due to Turkish ACC re-structuring. 13 ALL AIR TRANSPORT DELAYS (SOURCE: CODA) This section presents the all air transport delay situation as seen from the airlines by using the data collected by Central Office for Delay Analysis (CODA) from airlines. Data coverage is 68% of the commercial flights in the ECAC region for December 218. ATFM delays reported by airlines may be lower than the NM calculated ATFM delays due to difference in methods: ATFM delays of NM are the (flight) planned delays ; the airlines report the actual experienced ATFM delay on departure. For instance, a flight with an ATFM delay may also have a handling delay absorbed within the ATFM delay. In the event of a long delay an example being during ATC industrial action a flight may keep its original schedule, however when it s flight plan is submitted for example a day later any ATFM delay allocated may be lower or zero, in this case airline reported delay will exceed NM reported ATFM delay. Average Departure Delay/Flight (min) Breakdown Average Delay per Flight Dec Average En-Route Delay/Flight Average En-Route Delay/Flight 7.54 Average primary delay Passenger experience Based on airline data, the average departure delay per flight from All-Causes was minutes per flight, a 19% decrease in comparison to December 217, with less weather delay impacting operations. Primary delays counted for 56% or 7.54 min/flt, with reactionary delays representing the smaller remaining share of 44% at 5.93 min/flt. NM reported En-Route ATFM delay Primary Delay (excl En-Route) Airline Reported En-Route ATFM Delay Reactionary delay Avg departure delay/flight (min) Average Departure Delay per Flight 217/ Average reactionary delay per flight (CODA) Further analysis of the past 12 months shows that the monthly average All-Causes en-route ATFM delay reported by airlines remains high at.7 minutes per flight in December 218. ATFM delays in December 218 were mostly generated by enroute ATFM Regulations caused by ATC capacity, ATC staffing and en-route weather. The 44% share of reactionary delays in December 218 is slightly lower than the shares observed during the last three months. 15 AIRPORTS Local Plans in January A number of airports undertook infrastructure and technical system improvement works during January. These improvements as well as some special events had at most a minor impact on local airport operations, unless otherwise stated. Special Events World Economic Forum at Davos from 19 to 27 January locally impacted operations at Geneva airport. Completed Runway maintenance/closure at Athens airport; ILS maintenance at Ibiza airport. Industrial Action Industrial action by security personnel at Berlin/Tegel airport on 7 January generated 3,59 minutes of ATFM delay; Industrial action by security personnel at Düsseldorf airport 9 and 1 January with approximately 268 flights not operating to/from the airport as a result; Italian ATC industrial action on 11 January generated 5,29 minutes of en-route ATFM delay and 1,299 minutes of airport ATFM delay. NM estimates there were 265 flights which did not operate. Industrial action by security personnel on 15 January at 8 German airports: Frankfurt-Main, Hamburg, Bremen, Hannover, Erfurt, Leipzig-Halle, Dresden and Munich. Approximately 8 expected movements did not take place. Operations were most disturbed at Frankfurt where only 63 movements were recorded compared to 1,223 the previous Tuesday and at Hamburg, (187 compared to 36).
