12 Results(Remote TWR solutions) Remote Single Airport concept is viable and acceptable Remote operations not negatively impact safety performance and not require relevant adjustment and/or change in the conventional working method. RACOON devices considered quite intuitive and easy to use, but more training needed to optimize the interaction with these tools. Multiple airport scenario: quite positive results on perceived workload and situational awareness. Additional support tools required No reduction in capacity was assessed for solutions demonstrated (Remote operations single/multiple) same capacity level registered, values of Average Hourly Throughput not impacted, no delay induced by solutions demonstrated. Remote Provision of ATS resulted viable and acceptable by ATCOs. Remote tower operations do not negatively impact the performance in managing traffic effectively and do not require relevant adjustments and/or changes in the conventional working method. 12

13 Results(RNP-APCH Procedures) High repeatability of RNP APCH trajectories reported by Airlines, consequently protection of procedures are reduced compared to conventional approaches optimisation of TMA airspace. GNSS based procedures resulted totally transparent for the tower operations. From Airlines output, without traffic constraints, RNP-APCH procedures can be flown as a CDO (CDFA Continuous descent final approach) thanks to the vertical guidance provided by the aircraft. PBN procedures defined as overlay of existing procedures brings minor benefits in terms of fuel efficiency operators recommend to take full advantage of RNP capabilities in terms of design also. GNOME monitoring system: The typical satellite geometry, visible from the Linate airport, considered good enough to guarantee adequate performance in the navigation domain and commitment to ICAO SARPS Performance results assessed in terms of Availability (100%) and Accuracy GPS and SBAS considered acceptable and fully compliant with ICAO targets Developed HMI accepted and easily understood by ATCOs layout suitable for future operational use, since it reports synthetic and clear information Further investigations about operational usage warmly suggested in order to clarify requirements related to Navigation Service Monitoring(ICAO PBN Manual) 13

14 Conclusions RACOON is the first Italian case-study on Remote TWR solution and the experience gained paves the way to additional developments on its applicability and potential deployment in the Italian context RACOON experience allowed to create a robust cooperation framework on Remote TWR solution with the Italian Regulator, ENAC, and the airlines, and paves the way to new business opportunities both in Italy and abroad. RACOON demonstrated the technical and operational feasibility of the remote TWR concept in the Italian context even in such a complex airports like Linate and Malpensa contribution to mature the remote towers solutions towards medium, or even high, traffic density airport aerodromes RNP-APCH procedures are already deployed and used in several Italian Airports the monitoring solution developed supports further deployment of these procedures, especially at airport where not ILS procedures are currently available, and allow to maximise the operational benefits.. 14
