LONDON / 9-0 SEPTEMBER WESAM ALSABBAN, PHD STUDENT, QUEENSLAND UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY Wesam is a doctor of philosophy and has a masters in engineering and another masters in business administration. Wesam has received numerous awards and achievements including Outstanding HDR Student award in November 0 and EDN innovation award 009. Wesam has a gold medal from IFIA 00 and iena 0. He also has been a finalist in EDN 00 and Engineering for Humanity competition 0. His project was displayed in Melbourne Museum in 00 and he was awarded gold genius medal from Association of Hungarian Investors 0. ANDREW BADHAM, ATM POLICY SPECIALIST, CAA Andrew is part of the UK CAA s Unmanned Aircraft team and represents the CAA on Eurocae WG 7, the JARUS Detect and Avoid group and provides input to the ASTRAEA workstream. He has been with the CAA for years, in that time he was editor of MATS Part, and also dealt with policy development in areas such as UK and European ATC procedures, Unmanned Aircraft, Space Tourism, Winter Operations and Wake Turbulence. He joined the CAA after 8 years with the BAA which included several years as an aerodrome inspector, aerodrome operations positions at Glasgow and Gatwick Airports and latterly as a senior corporate manager dealing with aerodrome and ATM safety issues working closely with the UK CAA, EASA and ICAO. Andrew also spent three years at Luton Airport and six years as an aerodrome and approach radar air traffic controller with NATS at Aberdeen. JOSEPH BARNARD, MANAGING DIRECTOR, BARNARD MICROSYSTEMS Dr Joseph Barnard has a Ph.D. in Electrophysics from Cornell University in the USA, where he developed on the first GaInAs MESFET. He established Barnard Microsystems Limited in 98. Currently activities are focused on the development of Unmanned Aircraft Systems for use in scientific, commercial and state applications. MATT BENNETT, MANAGING DIRECTOR, SKYCIRCUITS Dr Matt Bennett graduated from the University of Southampton with a MEng in Electronics in 00. For his final year project he developed a basic autopilot for a fixed-wing model aircraft. This led to an offer of an Engineering Doctorate with the University and the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton. Following the successful launch from a research vessel of their oceanographic UAV in 008, Matt founded his own autopilot company (SkyCircuits Ltd). Building on his experience with robust autopilot design and non-technical users, his company now sells the SC autopilot to a variety of commercial and academic customers. ANDREW CHADWICK, BUSINESS MANAGER, FRAZER- NASH CONSULTING Andrew has over 0 years experience in the unmanned systems business. He currently leads the Unmanned Air System (UAS) business within Frazer-Nash Consultancy. Previously, Andrew worked for the Defence Research Agency, DERA, and subsequently QinetiQ in a variety of posts, notably: Engineering Project Manager responsible for major aircraft upgrade programmes; Manager of UAS Test & Evaluation programmes; and Business Development Manager for QinetiQ UAS Services with responsibility for the strategy, business development, sales and marketing for their UAS test and evaluation, training, and managed services. Andrew is a member of the Aerospace, Aviation & Defence Knowledge Transfer Network Autonomous Systems National Technical Committee, and chairs the Small UAS Sub-Committee. In addition, Andrew is a Committee Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society Unmanned Air System Specialist Group. Andrew is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society.

Clot is a director of EuroUSC with a solid background in safety critical systems. After gaining his degree in Chemistry and his initial introduction to computing, his career in aviation started when he obtained his PPL through the University Air Squadron. Later after a brief career in the Royal Air Force as a Flight Lieutenant, he moved on to a career in safety critical systems in the defence and nuclear industry. He joined the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in 988 as a software engineer and in 99 became the Head of Engineering Strategy within the National Air Traffic Services (NATS). In 998 he founded the UAVS Association and is its representative on the National Air Traffic Management Advisory Committee (NATMAC). In the European dimension, he was a member of the steering committee for the JAA/Eurocontrol UAV Task Force and is a leading member of EUROCAE WG7 working on Light UAS regulation. He is the current Chairman of the RAeS UAS Specialist Group. GERRY CORBETT, FLIGHT OPS POLICY SECTION, CAA Lt Cdr Gerry Corbett is currently working on secondment to the UK Civil Aviation Authority s Directorate of Airspace Policy (DAP). A military Air Traffic Control Officer with over years experience, he has served as a controller at airfield and Area Radar units ashore in the UK, and at sea worldwide from the RN s Aircraft Carriers. Responsible for Airspace Policy matters associated with the operation of Unmanned Aircraft Systems in UK airspace, he is also the CAA s Focal Point for Unmanned Aircraft matters and is the sponsor for Civil Aviation Publication (CAP) 7, the primary guidance document for Unmanned Aircraft System Operations in UK Airspace. PHILIP DALTON, PRODUCER, UPPERCUT PRODUCTIONS Philip Dalton has been making wildlife documentaries at John Downer Productions for the last years. He has produced many award winning programmes for the BBC including Polar Bears: Spy on the Ice, Swarm and more recently Earthflight. Philip Dalton has helped to push back the boundaries of filmmaking to create fresh and innovative images of the natural world. He s currently producing a series on Penguins for the BBC and Discovery. RICHARD DEAKIN, CHIEF EXECUTIVE, NATS Richard Deakin was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of NATS UK s privatised National Air Traffic Services on April 00. Richard is responsible for the /7 service operation employing 000 staff and providing an air navigation service in UK and North Atlantic airspace for.m flights per annum. He was previously Senior Vice President of Thales Group s Air Systems Division based in Paris where he was responsible for a.8bn division covering air defense, ballistic missile defense, radar and air traffic management systems and employed 7000 staff across the world. Richard has over 0 years experience of major programmes in the aerospace and defence industry sector. Richard s career started as an engineering apprentice at BAE Systems, where he spent 7 years in a number of roles, latterly as Vice President Commercial Aerospace, based at Farnborough. Moving to TRW Aeronautical Systems as European Operations Director, Richard ran nine factories in the UK, France and Germany producing high precision aerospace systems. Before joining Thales in 00, Richard spent several years as Group Director Programmes with GKN Aerospace Services. A Chartered Engineer, Richard holds a first class honours degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Kingston University and an MBA from Cranfield School of Management. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Engineering from Kingston University in January 008. DEWAR DONNITHORNE-TAIT, UAS GROUP, ROYAL AERONAUTICAL SOCIETY His main expertise lies in the areas of business strategy and governance, commercializing new technology (principally ICT and unmanned systems) and new media production. He has 0 years of government service in operations, intelligence,

He was Head of UK Operations and then eeurope Envoy for Sun Microsystems Federal until setting up his own company in 000. As personal consultant to the Minister, he played a key role in the Belgian Government s egovernment strategy. Since 98, he has worked several UGV and UAS research, development and acquisition projects. He was President of AUVSI ( and is funded by AUVSI to work UAS standards. He was Vice President and International Director AFCEA, receiving the Admiral Jon L. Boyes Medal in 00. An experienced commercial UAS operator, in his current role with CCUVS in Canada he is working several initiatives to commercialize unmanned systems. He has been involved in wildlife conservation for years. LAMBERT DOPPING-HEPENSTAL, PROGRAMME DIRECTOR, ASTRAEA Lambert is Engineering Director Systems and Strategy at BAE Systems Military Air & Information and the ASTRAEA Programme Director. He has worked for BAE Systems and its predecessor companies for the past 0 years as a systems engineer on all its major aircraft programmes, including Hawk, Sea Harrier, Tornado and Typhoon. Following the formation of BAE Systems, he was appointed Corporate Technology Director. In 007, he returned to the Military Aircraft business where he is now responsible for Engineering Strategy and Sustainability. He was appointed Programme Director by the ASTRAEA Consortium in 00. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 007. ANDREW HEATON, PHD STUDENT, CRANFIELD UNIVERSITY Andrew Heaton is an EPSRC Industrial CASE PhD student at Cranfield University s IVHM Centre, working with BAE System investigating the design of Integrated Vehicle Health Management systems for Unmanned Aerial Systems. Andrew gained his BSc in Aerospace Technology with Management in 009 from the University of Hertfordshire during which he spent his second year was spent on exchange at West Virginia University in the United States, and was a member of the UAS Team in his final year. He then went on to receive an MSc in Aerospace Engineering form Brunel University in 00. ANDY JEFFREY, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER - ISR SYSTEMS, UTC AEROSPACE SYSTEMS Andy Jeffrey joined the RAF in 98 and following navigator training was posted to the Tornado at RAF Bruggen, the strike/attack role. Following this, he was posted to the Hawk as an instructor. On returning to the Tornado in the recce/ attack role, he was one of the first crews to fly with NVGs. Jeffrey then completed the Weapons Instructor course winning the trophy for best student. On promotion to Sqn Ldr, Jeffrey completed tours in the Air Warfare Centre and then the ISTAR procurement area of the MOD before returning to Tornado force as a deputy sqn commander. Jeffrey was then appointed as the MOD s UAC/UCAV expert and drafted the highly acclaimed UK UAV Road Map. He then went on to be the first OC of the newly reformed 9 Sqn flying the MQ-9 Reaper and developed the aircraft s multi-mission capabilities (ISTAR and armed). For his efforts, Jeffrey was awarded the OBE. In 0 Jeffrey left the RAF and joined Goodrich as a business development manager responsible for the marketing of the DB-0 sensor which started operations in the RAF s RAPTOR pod and is now in service with numerous air forces carried by fast jets and multi-engine platforms. PETER LEE, SOLICITOR, TAYLOR VINTERS Peter is a lawyer in Taylor Vinters commercial and technology team. He specialises in providing advice on commercial contracts and technology law (including intellectual property, data protection and privacy arrangements). His recent experience includes: advising an unmanned aircraft systems company on various supply agreements, proposals and IPR transfer arrangements for military and other projects in the UK and internationally;

LONDON / 9-0 SEPTEMBER Advising a start-up engineering and technology company developing a stealth unmanned platform; Advising a large prime contractor on its tender process with both the Ministry of Defence and funders of a UK simulation pilot training project. Peter has recently been invited to join industry consortiums to provide legal support for two separate UAS European projects and speaks regularly on UAS and the law. As well as his legal qualifications Peter has a degree in applied marine biology, an MBA and is a PRINCE Practitioner. Before qualifying as a solicitor, Peter was an infantry officer in the British Army and served in Iraq and the Balkans where he experienced the benefits of unmanned systems at first hand. He aims to provide good value, plain English advice to his clients. CRAIG LIPPETT, UAS TRAINING PROGRAMME MANAGER, RESOURCE UAS Craig joined Resource Group in Oct 0 having served years in the Royal Air Force, latterly as an Air Traffic Control Instructor and Examiner. Following extensive operational experience in Iraq and Afghanistan as a Battlespace Manager managing a range of UAS platforms in complex operational airspace, Craig was involved in Training Development and delivery with the MoD, specialising in the application of the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT). Craig has been with the new Resource UAS business unit from its inception, coordinating training development, review and delivery, and ensuring this is conducted to exacting standards encountered both in the military and commercial UAS industry. MICHAEL MAES, FLIGHT OPERATIONS MANAGER, GATWING, A TRIMBLE COMPANY Michael Maes is a former air traffic control officer in the Belgian Air Force. Here he gained a lot of knowledge of air regulations, he continued in business aviation as well. This experience serves him well now. His main task at Gatewing is the implementation of air regulation and company representation towards the aviation authorities. Next to this he is also responsible for documentation and training. Currently he also is the president of BeUAS, the Belgian Unmanned Aircraft Systems association. OWEN MCAREE, PHD RESEARCHER, LOUGHBOROUGH UNIVERSITY Owen graduated Loughborough University with First class honours in Aeronautical Engineering. He is currently in the final stages of a PhD at Loughborough, entitled Artificial situation awareness for autonomous terminal area operations of UASs. Recently he started a Research Associate position to continue research under an EPSRC grant focussing on situation awareness and decision making for unmanned vehicles under uncertainty. He also held a Private Pilots Licence for 9 years and over 0 years experience with small unmanned vehicles. ANT MILLER, RESEARCH ENGINEER, BRITISH BROADCASTING CORPORATION R&D Ant Miller is a senior research manager working in the Technology Transfer team within the BBC s R&D dept. In this current role he is responsible for taking the results of the R&D departments experimental activities and promoting their uptake and adoption by the BBC and wider industry through partnerships, spinouts, and licensing amongst other routes. Joining the BBC R&D UAS project team in April of 0 Ant took on responsibility for flight planning and location management, developing the BBC s flight planning procedures from scratch and liaising with local stakeholder and broadcast services clients across the corporation. With the iflyer project concluded Ant is now coordinating the review of BBC UAS operations and mapping out a strategy for their future use by the BBC in the UK and around the world. JOHN MORELAND, GENERAL SECRETARY, UAVS ASSOCIATION John Moreland has been General Secretary of UAVS since 008. He is a business and project management consultant

ABDOULAYE N DIAYE, GENERAL SECRETARY, EUROCAE Mr Abdoulaye N Diaye is the new Secretary General of the European Organisation for Civil Aviation Equipment EUROCAE, an organization dedicated to aviation standardisation. Abdoulaye N Diaye is a board member of the European RPAS Streering Group ERSG Abdoulaye N Diaye is an aviation expert with years of experience both in civil and military domains. He has held senior management positions in the fields of Corporate Strategy, Strategic Marketing and Teaming, Business Development, Unmanned Aircraft System Product Policy, Project & Program Management, as well as engineering positions in Air Operations, Certification & Airworthiness, Systems Engineering and Safety Critical Software Development. He cumulates 9 years of employment with the Thales Group, interspaced with several years with Rockwell Collins Company. Thanks to his appointments in different countries (France, UK, USA), he has built up close relations with a significant number of the aviation stakeholders and players in these countries, as well as in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, South Africa, Spain. Abdoulaye N Diaye graduated from National Institute of Civil Aviation in France (ENAC) as an Aircraft Design, Air Operations and Management Engineer in 989. LT COL CRAIG PALMER, OC, ND REGIMENT, ROYAL ARTILLERY Lt Col Palmer is the Commanding Officer of the 70 strong nd Regiment Royal Artillery, which has operated Tactical and Mini-Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Balkans for the majority of the previous years. Previously a commander of a PHOENIX battery, he deployed the initial UK UAS capability to Afghanistan in 00 before then converting the Battery to HERMES 0. He is currently the UAS Systems Commander (UASS-c) for HERMES 0, DESERT HAWK and TARANTULA HAWK systems and will be the UASS-c for WATCHKEEPER when it enters service in 0. ADAM PIPER, ACII, ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, GRIFFITHS & ARMOUR Adam is a widely experienced Risk specialist with 7 years in the insurance industry for global and domestic brokers including working in the US from 000 to 00. He has serviced global and domestic accounts including major defence and outsourcing services companies. Adam has developed an insurance market for Light UAS including bespoke wording and application form. He services a number of UAS accounts and is at the forefront of ensuring the insurance market responds to the developing requirements of the sector. He considers himself part of the growing UAS community. Griffiths & Armour is a leading Lloyd s independent insurance broker, part of the global Assurex network. Formed over 70 years ago it still trades as a professional partnership, advising other professional firms on the full spectrum of insurance requirements. JARNO PUFF, R&D DIRECTOR, ATECH Jarno Puff, R&D Director, Advanced Aviation Technology - A^TECH, Italy has many years of international business and technical experience having worked for European and North American companies. He is responsible for the Research & Development project coordination, designing and implementing of manned and unmanned systems proof-ofconcepts, training design and delivery, executive training

He is also a co-founder and vice-president of the Italian volunteer Civil Defence Association Emergency Flight Department E.F.D., the first volunteer association that employs low-cost aerial platforms for UAV-like applications. The Emergency Flight Department also have its own Experimental Division that test and employ new technologies for governments and parapubblic institutions. One of the main focus of this Division is the study of how Unmanned Systems could be integrated in the civil defence workflow and environments. Particular attention is given to the ergonomic and easy-touse study of the Human Machine Interface. JIM SCANLAN, PROFESSOR OF AEROSPACE DESIGN, SOUTHAMPTON UNIVERSITY Jim received a materials science degree from Manchester University in 977. He then spent over years in the aerospace industry in a variety of roles, his final post being Head of Manufacturing Research at BAe regional aircraft. Whilst at BAe, Jim studied for an MSc at Salford University in aerospace design, and was sponsored by British Aerospace to study for a year at Cranfield University on a manufacturing management fellowship programme. Jim manages a number of research programmes sponsored by BAE systems, Airbus, Rolls-Royce and the EPSRC. He has a particular interest in Design, Logistics, Simulation and Optimisation. He runs a new MSc courses in Unmanned Vehicle Systems Design at Southampton and is a director of two spin-off businesses providing software to the aerospace industry. MARK SICKLING, FLIGHT OPERATIONS MANAGER CYBERHAWK INNOVATIONS Mark is a former Royal Air Force Pilot with over years experience and 00 flying hours on Fast Jet and Unmanned Aircraft. He has extensive experience with Unmanned Aircraft of all sizes and is a Flight Instructor and Examiner. He currently leads Cyberhawk s team of pilots and flight observers. Mark has an MSc in AerospaceSystems. FILIPPO TOMASELLO, RULEMAKING OFFICIAL, EASA Filippo was flight test engineer in the Air Force. From 98 he was in ENAV (Italian civil Air Traffic Control) was responsible for R&D and for a number of projects. Filippo is a Member of the ICAO Committee on Future Air Navigation Systems (FANS), then chaired Panels on Automatic Dependent Surveillance and the Mobile Communications In 000 he joined EUROCONTROL as manager for ATM/ ANS plans in Northern Europe before entering the European Commission, working on accident investigation and extension of EASA to ATM/ANS and aerodromes. Since 007 he has been a rulemaking official at EASA and is a Member of different ICAO groups, including the Study Group on UAS (co-chairman since 0). RON VAN DE LEIJGRAAF, CHAIRMAN, JARUS Ron moved from the Dutch Civil Aviation Authorities to the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment in early 0, in order to be able to continue his work on the development and international harmonisation of UAS regulations. His primary activity at the Ministry is working on UAS regulations, which means he continues his international activities regarding establishing the international harmonisation on airworthiness regulation with other national aviation authorities, EASA and EUROCONTROL. For this harmonisation, Ron created the authorities coordination group JARUS. This group will cooperate with the EUROCAE WG7 and WG9, by providing draft regulation to this group for consultation with industry and stakeholders. Ron is a member of EUROCAE Working Group 7 and chairman of EUROCAE Working Group 9. Furthermore he is the member on behalf of The Netherlands of the ICAO UAS Study Group. Ron graduated from the Technical University of Delft with a degree in Electrical Engineering and an avionics specialisation. Before joining the Dutch CAA, he worked, amongst others, at the Dutch National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR). Here he worked on the development of flight test instrumentation systems and research on navigation systems and avionics for future ATM applications
