After an early breakfast on board, the train rolls into Luxor from the spectacular temple complex of Karnak to the Valley of the Kings, Luxor is full of wonderfully preserved reminders of the Pharaohs. Today you will explore the magnificent Karnak Temple, which is perhaps the most impressive of all the ancient Pharaoh s' monumental works. One of the world's most celebrated temple complexes, Karnak is a house of the gods built over a period of some 200 years. Your guided tour of this vast temple of impressive pylons, obelisks and chapels will reveal its finest sections, such as the Avenue of Sphinxes and the Great Temple of Amun. Later you will be transferred to your Nile cruise boat, which will be your home for the next four nights. You can relax by the pool on the boat or explore the town. The temple has been in almost continuous use as a place of worship right up to the present day.today, remains of this vast complex include the colossal Great Colonnade Hall, almost 61 meters long, with 28 twenty-one-foot-high columns, its decoration largely undertaken by Tutankhamun around 1330 B.C. Our first stop is the Colossi of Memnon, two 17 metre-high statues on Luxor's west bank. Carved from granite blocks, they represent the Pharaoh Amenhotep III and were once part of an impressive colonnade. Continue on to the spectacular royal burial site of the Valley of the Kings. Buried under the arid hills here are over 60 tombs of pharaohs, many richly decorated with reliefs and paintings. With your leader, explore this sprawling and spectacular place, where the pharaohs of the New Kingdom (16th to 11th century BC) were secretly interred for all eternity, and where discoveries are still being made. Your guide will explain the history and legends of these remarkable people, their funerary rites, and the significance of the many paintings and hieroglyphics, still well preserved in the deepest tombs. You will visit three of the most interesting royal tombs and then continue to the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, a stunning colonnaded building set against high cliffs that create a spectacular natural amphitheatre. One of Egypt s greatest Queens, she built this temple to prove her importance among the ancestors. Enjoy lunch upon your return to the boat. There is time to relax on deck or in your cabin before you set sail for Edfu. Generally the journey from Luxor to Edfu is from 1 pm to 11 pm. The sense of awe that comes from touring this temple is incredible. Please note: The only mode of transport available to visit the Edfu temple is by locally managed horse and carriages. As a responsible travel focused business, animal welfare is extremely important to us and unfortunately, some operators of the horse and carriages have been found to be in breach of our animal welfare guidelines. It is for this reason we do not include the visit the Edfu Temple. Continue travelling upriver, relaxing on the sundeck and taking in the surrounding sights desert hills forming a backdrop to lush riverbanks, fishermen casting their nets and farmers working their land. This afternoon we will arrive at Kom Ombo temple. Kom Ombo Temple. Set dramatically on the bank of the Nile, 47 kilometres north of Aswan and 168 kilometres south of Luxor, the soaring, chunky columns of the Great Temple of Kom Ombo are a magnificent sight as you arrive from the river. Dedicated to the gods Sobek and Haroeris, the temple's finely carved reliefs give a sense of this area's prominence as capital over the surrounding region during the Ptolemaic era. Today, Kom Ombo may be a sleepy agricultural backwater surrounded by sugar cane fields, but its prime position along the Nile once made it one of Upper Egypt's most important centres. Wander through the temple's colonnades, gazing up at scenes of kingly propaganda, and you'll capture a feel of this glorious history for yourself. Return to the cruise boat where you ll continue travelling upriver Board your boat again at around 6pm and continue to Aswan. 7 Today you will drive to Abu Simbel near the southern Egyptian border. Often referred to as the Temples of Ramses II, the two enormous sandstone structures at Abu Simbel were built in 1255 BC by Ramses II to commemorate himself and his favourite wife, Nefertiti. The larger temple, dedicated to three major Egyptian deities, features four large statues of Ramses II on its facade, while the smaller temple is dedicated to the love goddess Hathor, with statues designed to embody Nefertari. Set on the banks of the artificial Lake Nasser, the structures were once in danger of being flooded with the construction of the Aswan High Dam but were saved via an extensive project to cut the temples into pieces and move them to higher ground, where they are seen today. On the return to Aswan, the rest of the day is free for you to make your own discoveries. This afternoon, we will enjoy a sailboat ride around the islands in a traditional felucca, stopping off at the botanical gardens. Welcome to Jordan, cosmopolitan and contemporary, yet steeped in biblical history. On arrival at Amman's Queen Alia International Airport, you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel. DAY 10 Amman Jerash Amman Meals included Breakfast, lunch 5 Amman Marriott, or similar After breakfast enjoy an Amman city tour to explore this ancient city. Amman is a bustling modern city. The historical places are located in downtown, where we visit the Citadel with remains from the Roman to the early Islamic period. 9 via the Souq, where you get an idea of everyday life, to the Roman Theater from the 2nd century with 6000 seats. Afterwards you will have a short drive north (approximately 1 hour) to Jerash, once one of the grandest ancient Roman cities in the world. These are some of the best ruins Greco-Roman ruins around. Reaching its zenith as a favourite of the emperor Hadrian, it has a striking collection of archways and theatres, baths, public buildings and colonnaded streets, and is a beautiful place to spend a morning exploring. Grand ionic columns encircle the city's centrepiece, the Oval Plaza, a wonderfully atmospheric place to linger after exploring Jerash's riches. DAY 11 Amman Petra Meals included Breakfast 5 Amman Marriott, or similar Today, you will head to the red rose city of Petra. Enroute we drive to Madaba, home to a number of fine Byzantine mosaics. Visit the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George and see an impressive mosaic map of the Holy Land that clearly depicts Palestine and Lower Egypt around 550 AD. Continue to the ancient village at Dana, on the edge of the Dana Biosphere Reserve, where local artisans sell attractive silver jewellery and charms. Later, the ancient Crusader castle at Shobak makes as imposing sight as you make the short drive up to it. It was originally built to protect the eastern flank of the Latin Kingdom and its trade routes to the sea before it fell to Saladin in Stroll the site and discover a small chapel, original gatehouse, and find out where a long, dark secret passage leads. It is the jewel of Jordan, the lost city of the biblical Nabateans, an impressive series of tombs and dwellings hidden behind ornate façades carved directly into the rock. Dating back to the 6th century BC, the site was lost to Western minds until it was rediscovered in 1812 by a Swiss explorer. The iconic Petra view the Treasury's glorious façade, glimpsed from the narrow cleft known as the Siq is arguably the single most striking sight of the entire region. The first taste of this exquisite craftsmanship among such stark scenery is a moment that manages to be both eagerly anticipated and also an almost surreal surprise. The Siq leads through the rock and is sometimes only a few metres wide, with walls soaring up to 180 metres on either side, and it is impossible not to imagine the armies and traders who made their way down here in the ancient times. 10 greatest surprise, however, is its size. With your guide you will explore the old Roman road, amphitheatre and several old tombs. You will also climb up to the second beautiful façade of the Monastery, from where you will have a magnificent view of the entire site. This is a memorable day exploring a truly extraordinary destination, a highlight of your trip. After lunch in the small village of Rum and a browse around the excellent and informative visitor's centre, you will visit several of Wadi Rum's distinctive rock formations and soak in the vast silence and spectacular desert landscapes. Wadi Rum is a truly beautiful place with towering sandstone mountains. It is very deserving of the time you will be spending here, with the wind-sculpted rock formations changing hue throughout the day from sunrise to sunset.. The Bedouins live in scattered camps throughout the area. You will enjoy an evening with them at one of their camps, which is set in an amazing location. You will then take 4WDs from your camp back to the main entrance, which is opposite the Seven Pillars of Wisdom, the mountain named after Lawrence of Arabia s book. Wadi Rum is probably best known for its connection with the enigmatic British officer T.E. Lawrence, who was based here during the Great Arab Revolt of DAY 14 Wadi Rum Dead Sea Amman Meals included Breakfast, lunch 5 Amman Marriott, or similar After waking up in the unique surrounds of the luxury camp this morning, you will enjoy a walk around the area (the length of the walk will depend on how energetic you are feeling) before scaling one of the large dunes to enjoy sensational views of the surrounding area. Keen photographers will be delighted. You will also meet your Bedouin friends and ride camels across the Wadi Rum desert. Make sure you pack your swim wear today, because in the afternoon you can wash off the dust from exploring ruins with a dip like no other. Drive approximately 1.5 hours to spend the afternoon on the shores of the Dead Sea. Named for the dearth of life in its waters, this lake is so intensely salty that the density of the water makes swimming and getting underneath the surface very difficult. The Allenby Bridge crosses the Jordan River near the city of Jericho, and connects the West Bank with Jordan. Enroute to Jerusalem we visit the ancient fortress of Masada. The ancient mountaintop fortress in southeastern Israel is the site of the Jews last stand against the Romans after the fall of Jerusalem in 70 CE and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After, we continue our drive to Jerusalem. Tonight, enjoy a welcome dinner to celebrate your first night in Israel. Rising to more than 800 metres, it offers an unrivalled vista of the Old City and its surrounds. On the way down from the Mount of Olives, stop at Gethsemane, an urban garden famous for where Jesus prayed before the crucifixion. We continue to Bethlehem, the biblical birthplace of Jesus before returning to Jerusalem to explore the Old City and walk the way of the cross. Each year, thousands of people journey to the wall every year to visit and recite prayers. We then leave Jerusalem for Nazareth, enroute visiting Nablus. Nablus has been settled since before the Roman era, and the land beneath the modern city is layered with millennia of plunder and glory. Continue on to Nazareth for our overnight. DAY 18 Nazareth Tiberias Nazareth Meals included Breakfast, lunch 4 Villa Nazareth, or similar After breakfast we explore the sights of Nazareth. Visit the Church of the Annunciation then on to Tiberias to visit the Churches along the Sea of Galilee. Along the Sea of Galilee coast we visit ancient sights of Capernaum, Tabgha and the Mount of Beatitudes. After, enjoy a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee before enjoying an Inspiring Taste at the famous St Peters Fish restaurant and try the signature fish dish of Tilapia eaten in this location since the time of Jesus. Following the conquest of Jerusalem by Salah Al-Din in 1187, the Templars made their home in Acre and began to build their quarter in the City's southwest section.. Continue to Caesarea, stopping briefly in Haifa to view the Bahaii Gardens. Visit Caesarea, the Roman Aqueducts and Amphitheater. The restored Caesarea amphitheater hosts modern-day concerts during the summer months, whilst the Old City has a range of boutiques and restaurants. Continuing we visit the port town of Jaffa before finishing our day in Tel Aviv. Edfu Temple: Please note: The only mode of transport available to visit the Edfu temple is by locally managed horse and carriages. As a responsible travel focused business, animal welfare is extremely important to us and unfortunately, some operators of the horse and carriages have been found to be in breach of our animal welfare guidelines. It is for this reason we do not include the visit the Edfu Temple. While we recommend that you do not use the horse and carriage to visit the Temple, the decision is ultimately up to you and your guide can help arrange transport and ensure the best horses are used. 23 VISA & PASSPORT INFORMATION It is the travellers responsibility to ensure they have a valid passport. The passport must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from your intended date of return to Australia. Australian passport holders will require a visa to enter Egypt. You will be able to obtain your E-visa when you have all of your travel documents approximately days prior to departure. Visit and create an account for yourself to then start the application process. Information required: Visa type (tourist) Entry type (single) Arrival date and departure date (no specific flight details are required) Passport information You have to upload a JPEG (only supported file type) of your passport The name of the host/tour operator, phone number, address and street address Pay USD $25pp by credit card Wait for it to be approved and you will be notified via within approximately 48 hours.
