10 4. Refer to the sources below : Findings from Lake Eyre tourism survey, 2010 In 2009 water in Lake Eyre* brought large numbers of tourists to the region. The event generated new levels of interest in the area from outside the region. It also highlighted deficiencies in infrastructure and services. * a dry salt lake in outback South Australia, officially known as Kati Thanda Lake Eyre since December 2012 to reflect the native title held by the region s Arabana people Outback rain sets up tourism in South Australia (radio program transcript) Parts of South Australia s north have received up to 150 millimetres of rain over the New Year period. Charter pilot Trevor Wright claims, I think we ll start to see a bit of water occurring in these desert river systems. This hasn t happened for quite a few years. Lake Eyre s famous birdlife is beginning to return. Lake Eyre is a major tourism attraction. Speaking of the part tourism plays in the local economy, Mr Wright says, It s huge. Eighty per cent of the work that we do out here associated with William Creek accommodation is tourism related during the season, which for the outback is usually from March through to October. As Trevor Wright prepares for a big tourism season, he says a lack of mobile phone coverage in the area continues to cause concern, and is deterring some tourists and putting unprepared travellers in danger if their vehicle breaks down. Discuss the limitations of applying Plog s model of tourist personality types to tourists who visit Queenstown. (6 marks) 7. Evaluate the validity, bias, and accuracy of the travel agent s information guide (Source 2) and the tourists blogs (Source 5) as sources of information for potential visitors to Queenstown. (8 marks) 8. In Source 3 Louise Clark presents the view that Queenstown is the perfect combination of adventure and relaxation for all visitors. Outline and justify three strategies that you believe governments and tourism businesses should put into place to ensure that Queenstown continues to attract a wide range of visitor types.
