3 SECTION 1: INTRODUCTORY INFORMATION
4 WHAT IS THE SCORP? The SCORP update is required every five years for Colorado to maintain eligibility for federal Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) allocations. A central goal of the SCORP is to identify outdoor recreation trends, needs, and issues that will help direct each state s use of its LWCF apportionment, which is allocated annually by Congress.
5 SCORP PURPOSE Inventory outdoor recreation supply and demand Recommend strategies to maintain and improve Colorado s outdoor recreation heritage Support local and statewide initiatives guiding the long-term maintenance and enhancement of outdoor recreation resources Allows for strategic allocation of limited funds

7 VISION SCORP Vision- Outdoor recreation is a fundamental component of Colorado s economy and quality of life. Outdoor recreation is more than just an activity; it is a conduit for people of all walks of life to connect to the outdoors and enjoy healthy, active lifestyles. The 2014 SCORP, in collaboration with Colorado s varied outdoor recreation partners, establishes cohesive strategies to balance a variety of recreational needs and sustainably manage the state s outdoor heritage for current and future generations.
8 SECTION 2: OUTDOOR RECREATION PARTNERS AND PROVIDERS
9 SECTION 2: PARTNERS/PROVIDERS Roles and importance of major recreation providers in Colorado, including: federal, state and local agencies, nonprofit groups, funding providers, open space and land trust organizations, private outdoor recreation providers.
10 SECTION 2: PARTNERS/PROVIDERS These entities play a unique and vital role in supporting diverse outdoor recreation experiences, and account for much of the recreation supply within our state. There are nearly 30 million acres of public land in Colorado General Ownership Acres Percentage Federal 24,886, % State 3,237, % Local 349, % Land Trust/NGO 146, % Private Protected 1,284, % Private 36,714, % Total 66,619,463

24 OUTDOOR REC EDUCATION Goal #1: Instill and improve outdoor recreation literacy across Colorado Definition: Outdoor Recreation Literacy- Greater understanding of the state s natural and outdoor recreation resources, expanded participation in outdoor recreation, and knowledge of its benefits and contributions to Colorado s high quality of life resulting in the ability to make informed decisions regarding outdoor recreation.

Objective 3: Convene a Statewide Outdoor Recreation Funding Coalition. Objective 4: Promote the connection between outdoor recreation and economic benefits.
28 INTEGRATION Goal #3: Strengthen the outdoor recreation community and maximize outdoor recreational opportunities through greater integration of user groups, natural resource interest groups and other outdoor recreation stakeholders.

Objective 2: Seek commonalities and unify the outdoor recreational community around common interests. Objective 3: Promote cooperation, coordination, and partnerships. Objective 4: Build on shared interests to promote a conservation ethic and sustainable recreation.

Objective 3: Foster prescription for parks programs statewide. Objective 4: Expand youth access to outdoor recreation and trails through partnerships with schools, parks, and transportation groups.
