Participants must drive in their own vehicles. Hiking North Kaibab Trail to Supai Tunnel (Grand Canyon, AZ): Whether you hike just a mile or rim to rim, you are among a long lineage of North Rim Hikers, beginning with American Indians thousands of years ago. Almost a thousand feet the trailhead than South Rim trails, hikers on the North Kaibab Trail pass through every ecosystem to be found between Canada & Mexico. At the rim, hikers will glimpse the vast maw of Bright Angel Canyon through fir trees and aspen, ferns, and wildflowers. - Grand Canyon National Park Service~ Please Note: Older children with good physical fitness can hike with adult experience and close supervision. It is not recommended to hike the North Kaibab Trail late in the afternoon, due to risks of heat- related illnesses. We will hike to the Supai Tunnel which is 2 miles in (4 MILES ROUNDTRIP). It will take us longer coming back up the trail, and we do not want to be hiking after 12pm (remember we are doing a day hike). Also if you do participate, please understand that we will NOT hike past the Supai Tunnel this will be our turn around point. Always get a good night rest before the hike. 2. Walking sticks or trekking poles are recommended to bring. 3. Always bring enough water with you on a hike. Sometimes you are getting dehydrated and cannot feel it. So remember to always drink plenty of water before, during, and after the hike. 4. Wear comfortable clothing. Watch weather forecast & dress accordingly. 5. Remember we are trying to keep the earth clean, please bring a plastic bag with you, so we don t leave any trash behind. 6. Keep in mind that there are mules using this same trail, so there will be mule smell present in the air. Items recommended for hiking: Light backpack/day pack. Durable hiking shoes or walking shoes w/ good traction absolutely needed. Trekking poles or walking stick (DPP can provide 10 trekking poles on first come, first serve basis on hike day). Light lunch & salty snacks (Granola bar, trail mix, fresh fruit, crackers & cheese, peanut butter sandwich, sub sandwich etc.). Water (2-3 liters recommended)/ Gatorade. There is Supai Tunnel, where we can refill our water. Sun block & hat. Bug repellent spray. Camera to capture wonderful memories & beautiful scenery.

2 Safety Measures: Turn left onto US- 89A N (drive 55.2 mi) 1) Participants must make sure they are adequately hydrated. 2) If any participants take medication, they must take it as prescribed. 3) Participants must inform DPP staff member of any medical situation immediately. 4) There shall be safety monitors adequately stationed throughout the line of hikers. 5) Safety monitors shall know the route of the course, directions, and know how to contact medical emergency technician in case of an emergency (911) or Grand Canyon Park dispatch. NOTE: spotty cell service on trail 6) Safety monitors shall carry a first aid kit. Three that shall be stationed in the front, middle, and at the end of the line of hikers during the hike. 7) If any hikers (participants) need to stop the hike, or return to the main area, a safety monitor shall escort the participant to the starting point. 8) All communication among safety monitors shall take place over radio/cell phone, so that the safety of the participants is ensured. From Tuba City, AZ to North Kaibab trail, AZ~151 miles: 3 hr 5 min drive. Plan to leave Tuba City no later than 4 am (DST). From Tuba City, AZ head south on Main St toward Cedar Ave (drive 1.3mi) Turn right onto US- 160 W/Navajo Trail (drive 10.2 mi) 4) Turn right onto US- 89 N (drive 42.8 mi) the junction

3 Along the way you will pass through Marble Canyon Continue towards Jacob Lake, there will be a store & restaurant stop. At Jacob Lake turn left onto AZ- 67 S (drive 41.5 mi)

4 Continue driving and you will enter the Grand Canyon National Park, here the rangers will ask you if you are local please tell them that you are. You will get in free J Continue driving until you see the North Kaibab Trailhead sign. Turn left in parking lot. DPP staff will be waiting here in the parking lot in the department vehicle- white Ford diesel truck. A sign in sheet will be distributed for participants and guests. All participants must sign in/out when they arrive/depart. Extra registration forms will be available. All participants must be registered to take part in the hike. Older children must be in good physical fitness and accompanied by an adult at all times. All participants will take part in a gear check before hike starts to ensure that everyone has plenty of water and snacks. A head count will be taken (before /after hike) and the hike will approximately 7:30 am DST or earlier.

5 Estimated time/length of hike is 4-5 hrs round trip/4 miles roundtrip.
