Day 1 Pura Vida Retreat and Spa in Exotic Costa Rica Saturday February 27 Fly away from the Texas cold winter to the warm, tropical mountains of Costa Rica! Our morning flight will deliver us early afternoon to the vibrant capital city of San Jose. We ll be transported to our magical mountain retreat, located at almost 5,000 feet elevation, to experience daily average highs of 80 degrees with evening lows in the low 60 s. After checking into our new home-away-from-home, we ll enjoy our first delicious dinner in this exotic habitat. See More Tours at Day 2 Sunday February 28 Awaken in paradise! Perhaps you d like to start your day by using your included 10 class yoga pass for Helen s morning yoga. What a great way to jump start your week of bliss! 2 Day 3 Monday February 29 Each day of our retreat will be yours to decide what you d like to do. Enjoy any one of the many classes posted below in our yoga section. Perhaps you d prefer lounging in the sun, taking a taxi into San Jose for the day or reading a book by the pool. Every day there will be OP- TIONAL excursions from which to choose. Or create your own! Waterfall Gardens Optional Half day tour Cost $50 Extend To Full Day (just pay for your taxi $75 approx. total and split it with friends. lunch not included) Departs the property Monday at 8:45 AM returning at 1:30 PM. La Paz Waterfall Gardens is located near the Poas Volcano in an area of the country called Vara Blanca. It will take us about 45 minutes to get from Pura Vida. Once we arrive, we have for our enjoyment over 3.5 kilometers of walking trails that lead you to a Butterfly Observatory, Hummingbird Garden, serpentarium, Frog Exhibit, Tica House, bird watching areas and different views of the several waterfalls in the property. This is a guided tour; they will enhance your experience with their knowledge of Costa Rica s natural history. Canopy touring originated in Costa Rica and can be found in many different areas of the country. We ll be surrounded by the beautiful forest at the foot of the inactive Barva Volcano inside the Braulio Carrillo National Park. To start the tour you climb on a stair case to a platform located at the top of ancient oak trees and zip line across from platform to platform using the cables that connect them. 3 See More Tours at Day 5 Wednesday March 2 Whitewater rafting Optional Full Day Tour Cost $110 Departs the property at 5:30 AM returning at 6 PM. Includes all meals. The Pacuare River is one of the best choices for an adventure trek in Costa Rica. There s no other trip in the country that offers such a perfect blend of wilderness exposure and excitement, both in one day. Pacuare is world famous for its sheer beauty where the river gorge is flanked by steep, green walls. Here you ll enjoy the feeling of total isolation from urban life and the realness of being connected with nature. Amazing views of this virgin tropical rainforest area will appear before your eyes as you descend into this land. Wildlife is abundant, with sloth, toucans, parrots, coatis, morpho butterflies and colorful frogs being common sights. The white water is equally exciting and is not an overly challenging river. Upon arrival we ll outfit you with a life jacket, helmet and paddle and then brief you with a full safety orientation talk. Finally, we ll take off down the rapids! Half way down the river we ll make a 1 hour stop to enjoy a delicious river side lunch. We finish at our own private Exploration Center, where you can take a shower, change and enjoy the gardens and terrace. Difficulty: Class III - IV Distance: 30 Km /18 miles Number of rapids: 52 Approximate river time: 4 Hours Minimum age: 12 years Sky Walk & Wildlife Boat Optional Full Day Tour Cost $110 Departs the property at 7:30 AM returning at 6 PM. Includes all meals This is an adventure for anyone interested in Costa Rica s wildlife! The journey begins in one of most biodiverse regions of the country at the Villa Lapas Reserve and wild life sanctuary. On this 400 acre private reserve we ll hike along a 2.5 mile trail which includes a series of 5 suspended bridges. At a height of 70 feet above the forest floor these bridges offer a perfect view of the canopy s flora and fauna, while providing the added benefit of least disturbance to the creatures of the forest. Following the hike a buffet lunch will be served and afterwards you ll have the opportunity to do some souvenir shopping. The next phase of the tour takes you on a two hour boat ride along the Guacalillo river canals. Among the lush pacific coast mangroves you may have the opportunity to see such wonders as scarlet macaws, howler monkeys and several other species of tropical birds. This tour is a wonderful way to experience a variety of Costa Rica s nature and wildlife as well as the beauty of the country side.**please bring comfortable walking shoes, and sun screen.

4 See More Tours at Day 5 Wednesday March 2 Hot Springs & Eco-Exploring Hike Optional Full day tour Cost $110 Departs the property at 7:30 AM returning at 6 PM. Includes all meals Once we arrive we ll have the opportunity to go on an eco-exploring hike. The hike will take us through pastures, continue to a secondary growth forest section and finish in a private reserve, which is mostly primary growth forest. The hike will last about 1 hour and as you walk, you ll see and learn about the fascinating aspects of several unique micro-life systems. For those who do not wish to go on the hike, the restaurant area and grounds surrounding it have a very pleasant environment to just chill out. After enjoying a delicious lunch we ll continue to the rainforest s hot springs site where you ll find wonderful relaxation, peace and tranquility. Seven hot spring pools vary in temperature, depth, and mineral content. Allow the forest s energy to restore and improve your natural energy levels. You ll benefit from the proven therapeutic copper-salt properties. Day 6 Day 7 Thursday March 3 Guided Hike in the Surrounding Hills Optional Half Day Tour Cost FREE An informative walk in the coffee fields that surround the spa. For about an hour and a half as you walk, you will learn about coffee from the time it s planted all the way to the time it is served in your mug, along with some general history of Costa Rica and how coffee relates to it. OR Create Your Own Tour!! Pura Vida will help you if you like. Friday March 4 Poas Volcano National Park Optional Half Day Tour Cost $50 Extend To Full Day (just pay for your taxi $75 total and split it with friends. lunch not included ) Depart the property at 8:45 AM returning at 1:30 PM. Poas Volcano is one of the most visited hot spots in Costa Rica. Only a short 45 minute drive from Pura Vida Retreat and Spa, you ll enjoy one of those must see places when visiting this country. Apart from its volcanic activity, this national park offers four different habitats in a relatively small area, evidence of Costa Rica s incredible biodiversity. There are well-kept but short trails around the craters and into the forest. The Crater overlook trail is a paved road 750 meters long winding around and right to the crater. The side trail, which takes 20 or 30 minutes to cover, leads to the interesting Botos Lake, measuring almost a mile in diameter and 900 feet deep. It contains cold water that connects to the Rio Angel, and later to the large Rio Sarapiqui. At the smaller crater we ll see a medium-sized lagoon spewing boiling sulphurous gases. The Escalonia Trail (named after a tree of the same name), also takes about thirty minutes to walk, and it takes you through the forest. Our local English-speaking guide will share information about the volcano as well as the beautiful scenery. Day 8 Saturday March 5 Say goodbye to beautiful Costa Rica to return to Springtime in Texas. We ll depart Pura Vida Retreat and Spa for San Jose where we ll fly home today. We ll send a detailed timed itinerary approximately two weeks prior to departure for our retreat.

5 Accommodations Tri-Level The Tri-Level has steps inside connecting the three living spaces; entry level with bathroom, middle level with bed(s), and lower sitting area with coffee maker. Each has a balcony and the option of two twin beds or one king. Kiva Kiva is a spacious accommodation nestled in the mountain side of Pura Vida.
