2 The snowmobile tour is the perfect length of time for first-time riders and individuals looking for a scenic, fun ride, exploring and experiencing the wilderness, glacier and the breathtaking views over South Iceland. The tour starts at our base, after a short briefing and dressing up in a snowsuit we step into a super-jeep and we drive up the mountain to the glacier where we pick up the snowmobiles and ride to the top of the glacier Mýrdalsjökull. The glacier adventure will provide stunning photo opportunities to remind you of probably your best day in the wild and pure Iceland. We provide you with everything you need for a safe and comfortable ride bring only yourself. Our guides will take you through safety procedures and equip you in special clothing and helmets. The snowmobiles will not be a problem it is just a matter of squeezing the accelerator or the brake. 3 Glacier walk is a great glacier adventure where you can try for yourself how it feels to walk on ice. We walk on Sólheimajökull glacier (a part of the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap) on the south coast of Iceland where we have our glacier walk base. Nearby Skógar and Vík. It is about 30 minute walk from our base to the glacier. We walk through the varied landscape on our way, formed by the glacier for the past thousands of years. There you will see how fast the glacier has been melting for the past 15 years. After safety briefing and a lesson in ice walking we head onto the glacier to experience this unique environment with some amazing terrain with crevasse, sink holes and ice ridges. Sólheimajökull is the southernmost glacier in Iceland, the ice is up to about 200 meters thick and the total size with the ice cap Mýrdalsjökull about 600 km 2. Underneath the main ice cap is the caldera of the volcano Katla, one of Iceland biggest volcano. 4 The Super Jeep tour is easy and comfortable, the perfect tour for families and photographers. You will get the glacier adventure that provides stunning photo opportunities to remind you of probably your best day in wild Iceland. The tour starts at our base and after a short briefing we step into the super jeeps and drive up the mountain to the glacier. In the tour we have opportunity to stop at scenic points and step out to enjoy nature and take pictures. Continuing on to Mýrdalsjökull glacier, which is about 1500 meters high. Where we will drive to the caldera of the volcano Katla that lies under about 750 meters thick ice. In this tour you can have a great view over the glacier and its surroundings. On the two hour tour we also head down to the magnificent black lava sand beach. 5 The tour begins at the ARCANUM base at Ytri-Sólheimar 1, were we start by going over the tour plan and safety instructions. From the base we cross small rivers and head down to the black lava sand fields which derives from the dormant volcano Katla. Down by the black beach we stop to enjoy the amazing view up to the Mýrdalsjökull glacier and along the coast to the southernmost part of Iceland, the small peninsula Dyrhólaey. We then head along the coast to the river Jökulsá and up to the foot of the mountain. Upon our return we follow the mountain back to the base. On this tour you can get in touch with the raw black lava sand landscape by the south coast. 6 This super-exciting snowmobiling adventure takes you to the top of the spectacular Mýrdalsjökull glacier. We pick you up from your accommodation in Reykjavík. From there we head along the South coast to our base by the glacier. At our base we get you ready for snowmobiling. From the base we drive in our super jeep up the mountain to the snowmobile location. In good weather you will have a breathtaking view of South Iceland, one of the most scenic areas of the country. We provide everything you need for the journey, and no snowmobiling experience is required. Mýrdalsjökull is the southernmost glacier in Iceland and underneath the 250 m thick ice is the caldera of the volcano Katla. On the route back to Reykjavík we make stops by the picturesque waterfalls Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss. One-hour guided snowmobile tour. 7 In this tour we will take you to the Sólheimajökull glacier on the south coast of Iceland. We pick you up from your accommodation in Reykjavík in the morning and drive along the south coast, past the volcano Eyjafjallajökull and to the glacier. Sólheimajökull glacier is a part of the fourth largest glacier in Iceland, Mýrdalsjökull glacier. Underneath the glacier lies the volcano Katla, one of the biggest volcanoes in Iceland. We will provide all the safety equipment needed for the ice and after a lesson in ice walking we will head onto the glacier to experience this unique environment with some amazing terrain like crevasses, sink holes and ice ridges. 8 This exciting yet comfortable Super Jeep adventure takes you onto Mýrdalsjökull glacier, right to the edge of the caldera of the Katla volcano. The tour starts early morning by bus pick up at your accommodation in Reykjavík. From there we head along the South coast to our base where we step into the super jeep to meet up with the glacier. Along the way we stop at scenic points to allow you to look around and take pictures. In good weather the tour provides breathtaking views over South Iceland, one of the country s most stunning regions. After spending some time up on the glacier we head down the mountain and down to the black volcanic sand beach. On the beach we drive across small rivers and experience the raw lunar landscape formed by the volcano Katla for the past thousands of years. As well as stopping by the famous aircraft wreck. 9 This tour is combination of our South coast tour and ATV quad bike ride on the black volcanic sand beach. Early start in Reykjavík where we pick you up from your accommodation and head along the South coast to meet up with the quads. The quad tour begins at the ARCANUM base where we go over the tour plan and safety instructions. From the base we cross some small rivers as we head down to the black lava sand fields which derives from the dormant volcano Katla. 10 Snowmobile - Super jeep - ATV Our main base is in Ytri-Sólheimar 1. Ytri-Sólheimar 1 is in the Mýrdalur region about 25 km west of Vík and about 10 km east of Skógar. It is about 160 km drive from Reykjavík on road Nr. 1 (Suðurlandsvegur road) to us, about 2 hours drive. Paved road all the way. By the main road you will see our big sign, from there you will drive about 1,2 km on road 222. You can find us on the map in Garmin GPS device. Just go to point of interest > all point of interest and there you will find our company name ARCANUM. GPS N W Glacier Walk If your are coming for the Glacier Walk tour you will have to turn off the main road about 6 km east of Skógar or about 26 km west of Vík and drive road 221 (gravel road) about 4,5 km to our location by the Sólheimajökull glacier where we have our Glacier Walk base.
