We had a thrilling time riding the skimobiles to Langjökull. It s the only way to see the amazing glacier and mountains, especially in winter. The machines are easy to use, but you must have your wits about you too. Safety is stressed by the staff and all were made comfortable with proper clothing. The highland road to base camp is an awesome ride too. We offer snowmobiling tours for individuals and groups from our base camp in Skálpanes, on the East side of Langjökull glacier. From Þórsmörk, it is possible to view the volcano that recently erupted in Eyjafjallajökull glacier. Our first stop is at the Icelandic horse visitor centre that offers something for everyone, whether you want to meet the Icelandic horses close up, enjoy the exhibition about the horses throughout history, or simply want to enjoy a cup of coffee in the cafe. On the way, we make a stop at Seljalandsfoss waterfall to walk behind the waterfall and at a small glacial lagoon. Many glacial rivers have to be crossed on the way to Þórsmörk, which is situated in a valley south of Iceland, surrounded by three glaciers and mountains, which create favourable growing condition for the over 170 plant species you can find in the area. Landmannalaugar is the pearl of Iceland s central highlands, situated in a valley between colourful, steep mountains at the high and dark edge of the Laugahraun lava field. The route passes through Þjórsárdalur valley and crosses lava fields from different eras, small rivers and volcanic craters, which make up a unique lunar-type landscape. Landmannalaugar is surrounded by colourful mountains, due to centuries of volcanic activity in the area and is indescribably beautiful; you just have to see for yourself. The mountains are split with gullies and gorges that are ideal for hiking. At Landmannalaugar, you can have an outside bath in a natural warm pool where many hot and cold springs mix together. You will start by climbing on board one of the different types of Super trucks. We ll drive to the top of the mountain Ulfarsfell 335 m/1,100 feet, where you can enjoy the amazing view of Reykjavik city and the nearby nature. It is vital to wear comfortable and appropriate clothing to be able to enjoy the excursions to the fullest. Warm, wind proof clothing in addition to good, sturdy shoes should do the trick. How can I find the base camp when driving to the snowmobile area? You can find directions on Mountaineers website: Is there an age limit for your tours? The age limit is 6 years for our tours. The age limit to operate a snowmobile is 18 years, and a fully valid driving license. Can I operate a snowmobile/quad bike? As long as you are at least 18 years of age, and hold a fully valid driving license, you are allowed to operate a snowmobile/quad bike. When are you open? All year every day! The Golden Circle is a 300km long tourist route that loops from Reykjavik into the center of Iceland and then back.
