PAGE 2 VIEW DATES, PRICES & BOOK YOUR HOLIDAY HERE Introduction With its rugged coastal scenery, impressive volcanic geology and lush levada trails, the Atlantic island of Madeira is a paradise for outdoor family adventurers. We have combined a family friendly levada walk, with an achievable walk to the highest point Pico Ruivo at 1862m, a coastal walk along the Sao Lourenco peninsula and a forest walk at Queimadas. Our four days with walks are exciting as we look for one or two of the numerous geocaches hidden on the island, and we walk through tunnels, forests and to the Boca de Risco viewpoint for splendid panoramas of this steep sided volcanic island. To complete this family itinerary we have added plenty of swimming opportunities, a visit to a traditional basket weaver, some optional Stand Up Paddle boarding (SUP) and of course plenty of icecream on those warm summer days. One of the highlights comes at the end of the week with a dolphin and whale watching boat trip. It is truly beautiful and humbling to see these magnificent creatures. To round off this super itinerary we have a cooking session with a Madeiran chef for the children and an optional wine-tasting tour for parents. All-in-all this is a wonderful family holiday in Madeira with some manageable walks, activities and relaxation in the sunshine. Is this holiday for you? Suitable for from children 8 yrs old We have 4 days with half-day walks. These walks vary in length from 1 to 5 hrs. The most height gain on these walks is up Pico Ruivo with approximately 350m ascent. There are some sections of exposure, usually with railings on the sides of the path, on the Sao Lourenco peninsula walk and the levada walk. Children need to be supervised by parents on these short sections. If you wish to take part in the optional SUP sessions then you need to be able to swim. There is a swimming pool at the hotel in Santana for two nights, but opportunities to swim on most days. The geocaching will be instigated the by guide, and some of them are only available in the premium version. It would be fun for the children if they had access to the geocache app on a tablet or phone (signal required for GPS data). The app is easily downloadable. There is plenty of time for relaxing in the afternoons and enjoying some of the delicious food and wine that the island is famous for. Holiday Itinerary Day 1: Meet at the group hotel in Machico. A single timed transfer from Madeira Airport is provided. Meet at the group hotel in Machico. KE Land Only package services begin with an evening briefing from the guide. If we arrive early then we can pop to the beach (2 mins walk) for our first swim in the sea. HOTEL Day 2: Walk along the stunning peninsula Sao Lourenco in search for our first geocache, swimming. After breakfast we have a short transfer to the stunning headland 'Ponta de Sao Lourenco'. And it is here that our treasure hunt starts in earnest. During our walk (3-4 hrs) along this peninsula our guide will help us navigate to seek out the geocache. As we walk along the cliffs (railings are present), there are magnificent views out to sea throughout the walk. There are a thousand different colours of the jagged rocks and outcrops and glimmering sea.

PAGE 3 On our return we stop at the small sandy beach of Prainha. This black sand beach is the only naturally sandy beach on Madeira and has a beach side café for coffees and ice-creams. We have some time here for swimming after our walk and to relax. We then transfer back to our accommodation in Machico. Time allowing we can go down to the sandy beach at Machico for a swim. This beautiful yellow sand is imported from the Moroccan Sahara! Dinner will be at the hotel or in a local restaurant in this small friendly town. HOTEL MEALS BLD TIME 3-4 HRS WALKING HOURS Day 3: Walk along the levada and through tunnels with dripping moss to seek the geocache. Try basket weaving in the afternoon. After breakfast we have another very short transfer up the road to the start our delightful 'levada do Canical' walk. The levadas, many originally dug in the 1450's by slaves, are channels moving water around the island. They are often fringed with flowers and are very pretty as they snake across the mountain sides and through their specifically built tunnels. We start just before the main tunnel and walk along paths through the forests, short sections rural road, and surrounded by mimosa growing as well as eucalyptus and pine. In places we are near farm buildings and all manner of fruit and vegetables can be seen growing on the terraces and there are some lovely spots to eat our picnic with splendid views of the islands steep sides and the ocean. We walk up to the incredible viewpoint at Boca do Risco before heading back into Machico through an exciting short tunnel. The levada walk in many places will be single file as the path is narrow, it is fairly level and along the way we will look for today's treasure - another exciting geocache. We change hotels today, so we drive to Santana via an attraction where visitors learn about the traditions of Madeira with hands on crafts. After a look around the classic A-frame houses of old and the little museum we have-a-go at weaving our own little wicker basket. We then transfer to our hotel in Santana. There will be time for the children to have a swim in the hotel pool before we have dinner. HOTEL WITH SWIMMING POOL MEALS BLD TIME 4 HRS WALKING HOURS Day 4: Short walk through the forest navigating to the geocache. Afternoon relaxing and swimming. This morning we transfer to the Pico das Pedras, just short distance from our hotel. This walk is through the beautiful forestry parks, and we see the original Laurissilva Forest, interspersed with more recent secondary forest. We cross a few streams and there are many different types of fern along the wide trail. Is our geocache treasure buried somewhere under the ferns? We will have to navigate to find it. We arrive at Queimadas where we see some traditional Santana houses with their thatched roofs. We return to Santana where we can have some icecream in a café and a nice coffee. This afternoon we can relax at the hotel and enjoy the swimming pool. If we wish we have the option of taking a 10 minute taxi ride to Calhau de Sao Jorge on the coast where there is an outdoor swimming pool with some splendid views. HOTEL WITH SWIMMING POOL MEALS BLD TIME 1 HR WALKING HOUR Day 5: Walk to the highest point in Madeira - Pico Ruivo (1862m). Cook some classic dishes with the chef in the evening in Funchal. Being at the highest point of the island is a highlight of the holiday and it is a splendid walk with exceptional views. Leaving Santana after breakfast we drive for 30mins to Achadas do Teixeira (1592m), where we have our first panoramic views of the area down into the Sao Jorge Valley. The paved trail takes us to the summit in around 2-3 hrs. Shortly after the start we reach a ridge with great views ahead of the mountains, and down through the valleys

PAGE 4 to the sea. Ahead of us we see the peaks of Torres as we walk along our path through the boulders and rocky outcrops, and across sections of bare pumice. We pass the refuge (stopping for some refreshments, like icecream!) before we continue up the heather-clad slopes to the summit of Pico Ruivo, the top of Madeira. Splendid views surround us of the rock, verdant valleys and blue sea. If we haven't found the geocache on the ascent, then we'll navigate to find it on the return at Achadas do Teixeira. From here we transfer down to the capital of Madeira, Funchal, for the remainder of the holiday. We check in to our hotel and freshen up before going out to a local restaurant where the chef is going to teach us how to cook a local dish. We will then enjoy our dinner at the restaurant and maybe sample some of the world-renowned Madeiran wine. HOTEL MEALS BLD TIME 4-5 HRS WALKING HOURS Day 6: Explore Funchal, Monte Palace Tropical Gardens and an exciting toboggan ride through the streets! We have the morning at leisure so we can enjoy a relaxed breakfast, and have some time to read a book or look around the town of Funchal. The town is very picturesque as it built in a natural amphitheatre with views of the ocean. We have lunch at a local restaurant before we transfer up to Monte and visit the Palace Tropical Gardens. These gardens have exotic plant species from all over the world and it's a very peaceful place to explore for an hour or so. We then get ready for our descent on the toboggan. These are essentially large wicker sledges on wheels which hold 2 or 3 people and are pushed and steered downhill by expert gentlemen in traditional outfits! They go slower than you think, but it's still an exciting and fun little trip through the streets. We return to our hotel and then have the evening free. Tonight we are at leisure to choose one of the many great restaurants in town. HOTEL MEALS BL Day 7: Morning dolphin and whale watching. Free afternoon for some optional Stand Up Paddle boarding (SUP) Madeira is a superb place to spot whales and dolphins. The temperate waters around the island are visited by more than 20 different species of cetacean at various points throughout the year and you don't have to venture far from land to spot sperm whales, pilot whales, bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic spotted dolphins, amongst others! With the help of the Islands Whale and Dolphin watching experts, Rota dos Cetaceos, we'll head out to sea for around 2.5hrs accompanied by an expert marine biologist in the hope of spotting as many different species as possible! When we come back to Funchal we will be ready for some lunch which we can have at a local restaurant or a quick sandwich if we want to get going again for an SUP session. This trendy sport is fairly easy to get along with and a lovely way of spending some time on the water. If we don't want to join the SUP session then maybe some Madeiran wine tasting would be a good option at the local Blandys Wine Lodge. Please note that children will need a parent present for the SUP session. Whatever we choose we will have a great last afternoon on this magical island of Madeira - 'The Pearl of the Atlantic'. Again we can choose our own restaurant tonight, and if we wish to have a meal all together then our leader will make a reservation and a suitable establishment. HOTEL MEALS B Day 8: Departure day. A single timed transfer to Madeira Airport is provided. KE Land Only package services end after breakfast. A single timed group transfer to the airport is provided. Flight time allowing you can spend the morning exploring Funchal - maybe look for a last geocache as there are a lot to be discovered here in the town!

PAGE 5 MEALS B Extend Your Holiday Extensions When booking your holiday, you will be able to 'add an extension option'. Once we have received your booking we will contact you to discuss additional services required for the extension and to take any additional deposit. Porto Santo Extension Porto Santo is a beautiful golden sanded island lying just 43km northeast of Madeira and part of the same archipelago. Significantly smaller and much less visited than its big sister, Madeira, Porto Santo offers a superb chance to relax, unwind and get away from it all. The 6-mile long golden beach is the island s biggest selling point, but certainly not its only one! Also to be discovered is the island s rugged north coast with its sharp cliffs and rocky coves, and its rocky volcanic centre.read more We have chosen to stay at the Hotel Torre Praia, a 4* beach side hotel, not far from the centre of the island s only town, Vila Baleria. Vila Baleria is a traditional Portuguese town, with white washed villas, a main square with outdoor cafes and lots of restaurants selling seafood and delicious local fare. The atmosphere of the island is intimate and tranquil, this is a great place to relax after your active holiday. Included in this package is a one night stay in Funchal, a one night stay on Porto Santo and a return ferry ticket. The ferry from Funchal to Porto Santo does not operate daily all year around, further additional nights in Funchal may be required. Porto Santo Extension 2 days From 250 per person Holiday Information What's Included A professional and qualified tour leader Single timed airport transfers on arrival & departure All accommodation as described Meals as described in the Meal Plan All land transport required by the itinerary All activities/excursions mentioned except where specified as 'optional'

PAGE 6 What's Not Included Travel insurance Visas (if applicable) Some meals as detailed in the Meal Plan Any additional activities/excursions indicated as optional Tips Miscellaneous personal expenditure - drinks and souvenirs etc Meal Plan All breakfasts, 5 picnic lunches, 4 dinners are included. Food Madeiran food has a Mediterranean flavour, however almost any type of food restaurant can be found on the island, from local to Italian and Chinese. Many of the local food and dishes are prepared from ingredients grown on the island or caught from the sea. Fish is popular, as well as chicken and pork. Meals are always eaten with potatoes, vegetables, rice or salads. Marinades of garlic, salt and bay leaves are also popular. Breakfast will usually be continental with tea, coffee, bread, jams and fruit. For the included lunches you will be given a picnic. This normally consists of a sandwich made with cheese, tomatoes, olives, ham or other meats, plus some fruit. Some days you will also receive a pasta or rice salad made by the hotel. For this purpose we recommend that you take a small tupperware box (and fork) to carry the salad for lunch. Dinners are taken either at the hotel or a local restaurant and there will be plenty of variety for everyone s palate including the children. Madeira wine is world famous and there are vineyards all over the island. However there are also many local wines which are well priced and of reasonable quality and it will always be plentiful! Joining Arrangements & Transfers A single timed transfer from the airport to the hotel in Machico is provided on day 1 of the itinerary. This transfer is scheduled to meet the arrival of flights into Madeira arriving late morning. Anyone who is arriving earlier than this, is welcome to wait at the airport to join this transfer. Alternatively, we can arrange a private transfer for you at an additional charge or you can take a taxi from outside the airport to the group hotel (approx 8-12). On the last day of the holiday, a single group transfer is provided from the hotel Funchal to the airport. This is timed to meet check in for flights which departs in the late morning. If you are unable to take advantage of this transfer, there is also an Aerobus from Funchal town centre to the airport, which costs around 5 and runs throughout the day, 7 days a week. Hotel contact details and an emergency number will be provided with your booking confirmation. Accommodation During this holiday we stay in 3 different accommodations. Our first 2 nights are in the Guesthouse Amparo in Machico. This is close to the airport and is a small family run guesthouse. It is also a 2 minute walk to the sandy beach (imported sand from the Sahara!) of Machico. Then we have 2 nights in a Hotel O Colmo, Santana which has an indoor swimming pool and Jacuzzi. The last 3 nights of our holiday are in Funchal in the Hotel Orquidea. This centrally located hotel has great views from the rooftop terrace over the town and to the sea, great for a cold beer whilst watching the sunset!
