1 Gum Branch Gum Branch is a northwest-southeast trail corridor that is located in the Southwest Park District. This corridor s endpoints are the confluence of Long Creek in the northwest and Bellhaven Road in the southeast. This corridor could include trails that serve the recreational needs of the neighborhoods that surround Coulwood Park. 2 Irvins Creek Irvins Creek is a major east-west trail corridor that is located in the East Park District. Irvins Creek corridor s endpoints are McAlpine Creek Greenway Trail and in the east, Sunset Road in Mint Hill. Irvins Creek corridor would link to Idlewild Road Park and many adjacent neighborhoods offering local connections for bicyclists and pedestrians. Irvins Creek corridor has many destinations and origins that would serve transportation and recreation needs of bicyclists and pedestrians. 3 Irwin Creek Irwin Creek is a southwest-northeast trail corridor that is located in the Central Region Park District. The Irwin Creek corridor has been divided into two segments: Upper Irwin Creek and Lower Irwin Creek. Lower Irwin Creek trail corridor s endpoints are Billy Graham Parkway in the southwest and Irwin Creek Greenway, Phase I, in the northeast. This corridor could include trails that provide alternative transportation and recreation routes for bicyclists and pedestrians that live in nearby neighborhoods. Destinations along this corridor include Amay James Park, Clanton Park, Revolution Park, Frazier Park, and Johnson C. Smith University. Upper Irwin Creek trail corridor s endpoints are Irwin Open elementary to Nevin Community Park. The Upper Irwin Creek corridor could include trails that would connect major points of interest including RibbonWalk and Nevin Community Park. 4 Little Sugar Creek Little Sugar Creek is a major northeast-southwest trail corridor that is located in the South and Central Region Park District. This corridor is divided into two segments: Upper Little Sugar and Lower Little Sugar Creek. Upper Little Sugar Creek corridor s endpoints are East Morehead Street and in the northeast, Cordelia Park. Lower Little Sugar Creek corridor s endpoints are the Lancaster County, SC line in the south and Princeton Avenue in the north. The Lower Little Sugar Creek corridor could link to the Anne Springs Close Greenway in Fort Mill, South Carolina, offering regional connections for bicyclists and pedestrians. Both the Upper and Lower Little Sugar Creek corridors have many destinations and origins that would serve transportation and recreation needs of bicyclists and pedestrians. 5 Long Creek Long Creek is a major northeast-southwest trail corridor that is located in the Northwest Park District. This corridor s endpoints are Victoria Avenue in the northeast and the confluence of the Catawba River in the southwest. This corridor could include trails that would provide recreational opportunities for bicyclists and pedestrians that live in the some of the many new residential areas in this Park District. 6 Mallard Creek Mallard Creek is a major northeast-southwest trail corridor that is located in Northeast Park District. This corridor s endpoints are the Cabarrus County line in the northeast and University Research Trail in the southwest. The Mallard Creek trail corridor could provide trail linkages for bicyclists and pedestrians traveling between the University City area to the existing Mallard and Clark s Creek Greenway and residential areas. One overland connector links the Mallard Creek Community Park and Recreation Center to the existing Clark s Creek Greenway via Polk and White Road, Katelyln Drive, and Saxonbury Way.
