It occurs during the annual polar bear migration in the remote Arctic tundra along the coast of Hudson Bay where the polar bears wait for freeze-up. And we'll also get a front-row seat to spectacular Aurora Borealis Northern Lights shows at night! This safari caters to 6 photographers only and is designed for intermediate and advanced photographers who are fit and can comfortably walk.5 to 1.5 miles with photographic gear and equipment. What You Can Expect as a Photographer You can expect to see from 1 to 10 polar bears per day, although there are days when no bears appear. The majority of photographs are taken with cameras mounted on tripods or with handheld cameras while standing or crouching. In addition to actively viewing polar bears, we will take short, guided walking excursions out on the tundra outside of the perimeter of the camp fence. There you'll photograph other wildlife such as Arctic hares, Arctic foxes, snowy owls and willow ptarmigan, caribou, wolverine, gyrfalcon, ermine and pine marten. On occasion, polar bears may be encountered on one of these walks. The Inuit Guides are specially trained to keep the guest safe while outside of the camp perimeter without endangering bears and following wildlife regulations (minimum distance is 100 m or 328 feet). Your cameras should have no issues functioning in the Arctic. Full-size tripods are typical and rain/snow covers are commonly used, as conditions are unpredictable.

2 Climate In November, the sun rises at approximately 8:30 am and sets at 4:00 pm. Temperatures during this time of the year can range from a high of 26 degrees F to a low of -20 degrees F. Light to moderate snow can be expected. Sunny days are possible, as are wind and fog. On particularly cold days, we may not venture far from the cabin complex. With the proper clothing though, you will be comfortable and may be surprised how much you will enjoy staying outside. Arctic Clothing Gear We realize that good quality Arctic-worthy equipment is expensive to purchase all at once, and may not be necessary for a one-time Arctic adventure. With this trip, a top-of-the-line Arctic Polar Clothing Rental Package is included in the price to enhance your Arctic experience and allow you to enjoy your expedition in comfort, no matter what Mother Nature brings. The Polar Clothing Rental Packages include top of the line brands, including Canada Goose, Outdoor Research, Baffin, etc., that have been personally tried and tested in the extreme climates of the Canadian Arctic. The Canada Goose Expedition Parka is your first line of defense against cold or unpredictable weather. It is an insulated parka with a durable, water repellent, Arctic-Tech shell. Paired with your choice of either Canada Goose insulated winter pants or Outdoor Research waterproof shell pants and winter boots rated to -100 C, you are ready to face the elements. To protect your head and hands, you will be provided with a windproof hat, neck warmer, liner gloves, windproof gloves, and insulated, waterproof over mitts all top quality Outdoor Research products. Our Arctic Adventure The adventure begins when we meet in Winnipeg with a night a boutique hotel attached to the Winnipeg airport. The next morning we depart for Churchill, then board the private charter flight where we travel along the west coast of Hudson Bay to Arviat, following the exact path polar bears take when they begin to migrate in search of the first sea ice forming on the bay. Days 2-5, we'll spend our nights at a newly built, private cabin complete with a 5-person staff including lead naturalist guide, local Inuit guide, a private chef and security personnel. Rustic, remote and accessible by air, the Polar Bear Cabins rest on the shores of Hudson Bay, 100 km south of Arviat, Nunavut. These simple, polar bear-proof buildings surrounded by an electric fence, offer a comfortable and safe home in the heart of polar bear country. The complex consists of four guest cabins and a central dining/lounge kitchen cabin. The fence is approximately 5 feet high with wires spaced apart far enough apart to allow you to take unimpeded

3 photographs. Allowing for a maximum of eight guests, the Polar Bear Cabins create a private and intimate polar bear viewing experience. Each guest cabin has an entryway for storing camera gear and tripods, and a main room featuring two beds, a small laptop computer table and adequate space for the rest of your gear and clothing. The cabins come complete with linens, duvet comforter and pillows, and in suite bathroom/shower. Each cabin is equipped with conventional North American power outlets. Bring your own plug adaptors to suit your electrical devices. If your electrical devices require 220 volt power, most cameras, laptops already have a power inverter/ac Adaptor that converts the power to the necessary level for your equipment on your power cord and there will be no further inverters/adaptors needed. To check, look at the adaptor (usually the square/rectangular shaped box attached to your power cord) and examine the input information. It will usually have an annotation similar to INPUT V. Gourmet meals are served with wine at dinner. You will be provided only the best food possible during this Arctic expedition. The chef-in-residence manages the kitchen. The dining/lounge area will have a convenient buffet table where unlimited snacks and hot drinks are provided. Hot lunches, steaks for dinner, local fish such as Arctic char, can be enjoyed. Local delicacies such as caribou or musk oxen will be served as well.
