3 Ethnicity There are many ethnic groups that are a part of Kenya. Kenya has a great European community and a lot of tourists and employees for mission and aid groups, Because of its open policy against the West.

4 Religion The current major religion is Christianity. In the 1400s the Portuguese introduced Catholicism in Kenya. The population grew in the 1600s. With colonization under the power of the British Empire a second, but larger, wave of Christianity came through.

5 Religion cont. In the Kenyan constitution they have free rights to practice the religion that they want to be. Islam came by medieval Arab trade and migration.

6 Economy Most of the manufacturing in Kenya involves the processing of agricultural property and the making of consumer goods. An oil processing plant at Mombasa processes imported oil. Titanium mining is being urbanized, and soda ash and cement are processed. In 2012 construction began on a large new deepwater port complex on Lamu Island, off the southern coast.

7 Economy Cont Manufacturing only plays a minor role in the economy. Tea, horticultural products, and coffee are Kenyans chief export crops. As well as the above products, there is still cotton, wheat, sugarcane, and so much more being grown.

9 Climate Kenya has a different climates for different places. In the low lying plains, They have a high humidity rate and little temperature variation from month to month. The northern region has a semiarid climate. They receive more rainfall and temps range.

10 Language In 1974 Swahili became the official language in Kenya. It is very highly influenced by Arabic and is written with the Roman alphabet. In Kenya English is used and is also an official language. In the Highlands of Kenya there are many different dialects that are taken by individual ethnic groups.

13 Vegetation and Animal life In Kenya poaching of protected species is a major problem. In 1985 Black rhinos had to be moved to heavily guarded sanctuaries. It is illegal to poach without a permit, yet people still put this animals in danger.

15 Living Conditions In Kenya most of the population live in a rural area. Electricity and water are very hard to get in Kenya. There roads are not like ours either. They are not cemented.

16 Family Life Families tend to be pretty large in Kenya. Extended families are very common. Marriage laws differ from different cultures. Religiously constricted marriages are known for Muslim and Hindu unions under separate authorized codes.

17 Clothing In rural areas, women wear multicolored cotton dresses or skirts and blouses. Large shawl-like cloths are commonly worn as protection from rain, sun, and cold. Babies are carried in a sling on the back or side. Scarves are worn on the head. Flat shoes or bare feet are standard. In rural Kenya areas, women wore cotton dresses that are made of different colors, and skirts and blouses. They also wear shawl-like cloths that are worn for protection from different temperatures and weather.

19 Food People in Kenya are very intrigued by Asian restaurants. In rural areas, kids eat different snack. They often snack on sugarcanes. At birthday parties they have variations of pop, but orange pop is often the selection.

21 Education The children in Kenya are often educated by for important stuff like nursery. They are educated by professional personnel. The education can cost a lot of money. Competitive sports such as football (soccer), swimming, and track and field are common.

24 Recreation The most popular recreational activates in Kenya are stuff like theater, television, reading, and cultural activities such as dancing and music. On weekends and in the evenings, walking, window shopping, and shopping in malls are very popular in the Kenyan nation.

25 Social Problems In Kenya the government are very concerned about the wildlife management and conservation. A major problem in Kenya is death by a motor vehicle. They happen due to the great number of different tourists they get and the bad driving conditions on Kenyan roads.

27 Social problems cont. Often you can see children running around cities and towns. These children are usually poor, alcoholic families. Until 1990s there was only one democratic party.

28 Rituals Kenyan Christians all pray before they eat. They only do it with their families. Funerals are kind of the same there as here. They begin with church gathering and often conclude at the cemetery. They usually have songs and a reception.

36 Employment Cont. Men mostly work as bus and taxi drivers, factory workers, and play very big roles in agriculture. Women usually are wood collectors for charcoal and go to markets.

38 Sports Residents usually join clubs such as billiards. Soccer is the main sport in Kenya. Gambling on horse racing is aloud in Kenya. They do it a lot on Sunday afternoons.

39 Relationships Each ethnic group has a special greeting pattern. The most easy way is what they call jambo. Young people can also interact with others, mostly in the city. In rural areas. Dating at a young age has to be supervised by adults.
