1 FALKLAND ISLANDS, SOUTH GEORGIA AND ANTARCTICA 03 FEBRUARY 20 FEBRUARY NIGHTS / 18 DAYS INCLUDES FLIGHT FROM PUNTA ARENAS TO PORT STANLEY On this far-reaching polar voyage we link three stunning locations. The sub-antarctic region of the Falkland Islands, which house numerous species of birds, some of which are endemic to the area. We aim for excursions to Sea Lion and Bleaker islands to explore varied bird populations including steamer ducks, ruddy-headed geese, southern rockhopper & magellanic penguins as well as sooty shearwaters and southern giant petrels. South Georgia is our next destination and is home to a proliferation of unique wildlife and birdlife. There are penguin rookeries with more than 100,000 nesting birds while the beaches are covered in fur and elephant seals to watch and photograph. Seabirds, including many of the albatross species call these islands home, nesting and raising their young in this wild and remote environment. South Georgia features fascinating history and stunning scenery which we get to explore along the way. To the south lies Antarctica the frozen continent. Icebergs of all shapes, sizes and shades of blue fill the waters. Here we find more unique wildlife living in sizable colonies, which we visit. The waters, which we explore, are full of aquatic life and we frequently encounter whales including humpback, minke and orca. On this voyage, our days are spent exploring on shore in the company of expert guides including naturalists, marine biologists, ornithologists and adventurers as well as our resident photography professional. Cruising in our inflatable Zodiac boats is another memorable activity included as part of the voyage. For the adventurous at heart, we provide plenty of opportunities to explore during both short and long hikes ashore, or by sea kayak. This voyage commences in South America, with a flight from Punta Arenas, Chile, to the Falkland Islands, where we board the ship. This saves a full day of sea travel allowing us to maximize time, exploring on shore. Special Notes: Our early season departures are timed to coincide with the arrival of spring as the region emerges from the long and frigid winter. It is an exceptional time to visit. The early season marks the beginning of the wildlife migration and commencement of the breeding cycle for many species. In South Georgia, scenes of male elephant seals battling for control of the beaches (and the female harems), and the intimate and beautiful courtship rituals of the albatross, will have you believing you are on the set of your very own wildlife documentary. The ice and snow conditions in Antarctica are pristine. Our mid-season departures are timed to visit during the height of the southern summer. Penguins are busy rearing their young chicks, while whales are fully focused on feeding. Much of the early season sea ice has

2 broken up which increases the number of potential landing sites along the Antarctic Peninsula and in the South Shetland Islands. Ask our expert sales team for details on each departure. As with all our expeditions, safety is our top priority. For that reason weather, ice or other conditions may require us to change our itinerary and shore excursions as we go but that is half the fun of polar exploring. Predictability is a word that has no relevance in this environment. Day By Day Expedition Itinerary Day 1 / Punta Arenas, Chile to Port Stanley, Falkland Islands Our journey begins in the morning in the southern Chilean city of Punta Arenas. We meet at the airport and fly on the scheduled service to Stanley in the Falkland Islands (this flight is included in the price of your voyage). After a short 90-minute flight we are met on arrival and transferred to the pier. Stanley is currently home to just over 2,000 residents and is reminiscent of a rural town in coastal England or Scotland. It is charming with brightly coloured houses, pretty flower-filled gardens, a quaint cathedral and several local pubs. The waterfront memorial, built to commemorate the lives of the servicemen lost during the Falklands War in the early 1980 s, is a sobering reminder of recent history. There is time to explore the town before we make our way to the ship for embarkation. After settling in to our cabins and exploring the ship, we meet our expedition team and fellow passengers. Excitement is in the air as we enjoy a welcome cocktail, dinner and cast off for the adventure of a lifetime. Day 2 / Sea Lion and Bleaker Island, Falkland Islands This windswept location, situated in the southern archipelago provides one further day of activity. We launch our Zodiacs and go ashore to view the remarkable wildlife colonies found here. Three species of penguins including gentoo, magellenic and rockhopper exist in the vicinity. Southern elephant seals and South American sea lions are found hauled out on the beaches. Once ashore we also look for king cormorants and striated caracaras. Weather permitting; we may have time to visit neighbouring Bleaker Island, another settlement on the exposed southeastern coast of the Falklands. Day 3-4 / At sea We chart a southeasterly course bound for South Georgia. The great pelagic seabirds are constant companions on our way to South Georgia. Our educational presentations and onboard discussions are always popular. History is a key theme of this voyage and the epic story of Sir Ernest Shackleton and the HMS Endurance expedition is central to any trip to South Georgia. Perhaps you will pick up some valuable tips from our onboard photographic guide, learning about image composition, the subtle polar light and all the basics of good camera craft. We also learn about polar conservation - a theme particularly close to the hearts of our One Ocean Expeditions guides and crew. Day 5-8 / South Georgia South Georgia has often been called the Serengeti of the Southern Ocean. As we approach the deep bays of this rugged, rocky outcrop, you will begin to see why. Launching the Zodiacs we begin our exploration of the island, in the vicinity of Elsehul Bay. Large numbers of fur seals and the much larger elephant seal will line the dark sand beaches. Living in the tussock grass, king penguins and their chicks may number up to 100,000 birds in some locations, including Salisbury Plain, St Andrews Bay and Gold Harbour. The island is also home to large numbers of nesting albatross and they fill the skies above, coming and going from the nest.

3 The scenery is spectacular and the snowy peaks of the island make us pause to consider the incredible feat of mountaineering when Shackleton and his exhausted companions traversed the island from the wild south coast in They arrived into Stromness whaling station having crossed from King Haakon Bay, to raise the alarm that eventuated in the rescue of his men on Elephant Island, in Antarctica 100 years ago. South Georgia is a thrilling location for history buffs and the rusting relics of the early whaling industry are all around us. We hope to observe several of the old stations at locations including Leith, Husvik and Stromness. A highlight is a visit to Grytviken the largest of the whaling stations, situated at the head of Cumberland Bay. It is here we visit the gravesite of Sir Ernest Shackleton. For many, being in the presence of the great explorer will be a highlight of the trip. There is an excellent museum at Grytviken, maintained by the South Georgia Heritage Trust, and the restored Lutheran church, built by the original Norwegian whalers, provides a fascinating glimpse into the past. Day 9-11 / Towards Antarctica and Elephant Island Weather and ice will dictate our crossing of the Scotia Sea from South Georgia to Antarctica, leading us perhaps to the South Orkney Islands or Elephant Island. As with all of our itinerary planning, our expedition Leader and Captain will make a decision based on the conditions at the time. The South Orkney Islands represent the peaks of a submarine mountain range called the Scotia Arc, connecting South Georgia to the South Shetland Islands. Often shrouded in fog and surrounded by ice much of the year, a chance to visit these islands doesn t come often. As we edge ever closer to the frozen continent, large icebergs announce our arrival in Antarctic waters. If conditions allow, we will hope to see the dark cliffs of Elephant Island appear on the horizon. Shackleton and his men were encamped here for many months, having lost HMS Endurance in the thick sea ice, far to the south in the Weddell Sea in From the tiny beach at Point Wild, Shackleton and six companions set off on the rescue mission to South Georgia, aboard the tiny lifeboat, James Caird. To this day, the epic ocean crossing is considered one of the greatest in history. If conditions allow, we will attempt a landing at Point Wild on Elephant Island. Day / South Shetland Islands, Antarctica Around 60 miles off the coast of the Antarctic mainland we find the South Shetland Island chain. Possible landing sites could include King George Island, Half Moon Island, Yankee Harbour or Hannah Point. Weather conditions permitting, we sail the ship into the flooded volcanic caldera of Deception Island. There are some outstanding hikes at these locations and the old whaling station and aircraft hangar at Deception Island beg for further exploration. After so much anticipation, we enter the icy waters of the Antarctic Peninsula in the vicinity of Mikkelson Harbour or Cierva Cove. Snow covered mountains soar from the dark waters. Along the shoreline in the bays and harbours of the Peninsula lives an incredible abundance of wildlife. Large rookeries are home to chinstrap, gentoo and Adelie penguins. Seals live on the ice floes, including the powerful leopard seal that we hope to encounter. Gulls, skuas and cormorants are also found nesting and feeding at many sites along the Antarctic Peninsula. We explore by Zodiac cruise and ashore where a range of wonderful activities await. Locations we hope to visit include Wilhelmina Bay, Orne Harbour, Cuverville Island and the Errera Channel. Join the photographic guide and take close up photos of the penguins, or of the impossibly blue ice. Or enjoy a hike to the top of a snowy mountain saddle with one of our adventure guides. If the opportunity presents itself, visit a science base or an old historic hut. The sea kayakers may range up to several miles from the ship, for a truly memorable experience. Each and every day, you have a range of great choices.

4 Days / Drake Passage return to South America After several busy days of exploration along the Antarctic Peninsula, it s time to return to South America. The educational presentations continue and we enjoy an entertaining and memorable voyage recap by our Expedition Leader. Join our photography experts in the multimedia room and download and back up your precious images. If weather conditions allow, we hope to make a rounding of Cape Horn. This fabled stretch of water is home to legendary tales of exploration and early navigation. It s a fitting place to reflect on a wonderful expedition to some of the most remote corners of the planet. Approaching the entrance to the Beagle Channel in early evening light, we enjoy a special dinner attended by the Captain of the ship. Day 18 / Ushuaia, Argentina In the early morning, we arrive into Ushuaia, Argentina. It is time to say farewell to your crew and fellow travellers. Guests will be transported to their hotels or to the airport for return flights home. It will be possible to connect to flights through to Buenos Aires or other destinations in South America. Otherwise enjoy a night in town or venture further afield to explore the highlights of Patagonia. About our Itinerary: Polar exploration can be unpredictable, which regularly causes variations to our itineraries. Specific sites visited will depend on prevailing weather and ice conditions at the time of sailing. The above itinerary should be read as a 'guide only' and may change. The ship's Captain in conjunction with the Expedition Leader continually review the sailing plan throughout the voyage, making adjustments to the itinerary along the way to take advantage of optimal weather and ice conditions or to maximize our encounters with wildlife. Decades of experience spent exploring these waterways mean we have a large number of outstanding landing sites and Zodiac cruising locations to consider, even when the weather conditions may not be ideal or when heavy ice may block out a planned route. A flexible approach is something we encourage you to bring to the ship. Before you Book Important Voyage Details Proof of our Polar Commitment When travelling with One Ocean Expeditions, you will discover how much we care about the places and people we visit. Medical Documentation Once you have booked your voyage to the Polar Regions, you will be required to complete a Medical Information Form. This form must be completed, signed and returned to One Ocean Expeditions no later than 90 days prior to departure. Passport Well before travelling, please ensure you have a current passport with an accurate photo, valid for at least six months after your scheduled return flight home. Also check that your airline tickets are in exactly the same name as your passport. Some countries may require you to have a return air ticket or sufficient funds to purchase such a ticket. Budgeting It is a good idea to bring along some $US cash. There are some onboard expenses such as those incurred at the bar, in our gift shop and for satellite communication via or phone. There are also several souvenir shopping opportunities throughout the voyage including some of the science bases in Antarctica. Clothes We do not need to tell you it is cold in Antarctica. So make sure you come prepared with clothes that will adequately protect you from the weather and wet conditions (sea spray is common onboard Zodiacs). Expensive specialty gear is not required, but you should have warm, waterproof clothing available upon your arrival in Ushuaia. 5 what to bring on the journey. Windproof and waterproof outer weather gear as well as expedition gumboots are included in the price of your voyage. This saves you from having to bring heavy clothing and boots from home. Details of this gear can be found in your pre-departure information. Onboard Like the weather, sea conditions can also be unpredictable. Rough waters are not uncommon in this part of the world. You will be safe and comfortable aboard with your experienced crew in control of our ship, but you may suffer the effects of motion sickness, unless you have taken precautions. We recommend visiting your doctor prior to departure for medication that can help you avoid this easily treated condition. Gratuities We suggest you allow the equivalent of $US10 - $US15 a day for gratuities for the crew and expedition staff. This is usually collected just prior to the end of the cruise. Gratuities are at your discretion. Sea Kayaking If you have some experience sea kayaking and are interested in doing this activity during the expedition, you will need to book this option prior to departure from home. We cannot book this activity once onboard. There is a separate document for sea kayakers that you will need to review beforehand. It s important you have some prior paddling experience. If you are unsure, speak to your booking agent or contact us to discuss. Embarkation Protocol Guests will meet at a central point in Ushuaia on the afternoon of embarkation. A One Ocean Expeditions representative will accompany the group to the ship. Full details of embarkation/disembarkation procedures will be supplied with your final documentation. Once onboard, you will be participating in an obligatory lifeboat drill. We will also conduct important briefings on landing procedures and Zodiac operations. Travel Insurance On all One Ocean Expeditions voyages, you must have comprehensive travel insurance. Your own domestic government medical insurance and private health care plans will not cover you in most overseas countries. Your travel agent can recommend a policy designed to cover participants on these cruises. Your policy must provide coverage for your medical costs in case of hospitalization, emergency travel and repatriation. We require that you obtain adequate insurance before joining the voyage. Cancellation insurance is also recommended. Please check the terms of your policy carefully, particularly with regard to limits of cover (i.e. replacement of photographic equipment, baggage loss, claims procedure, costs due to airline delays etc). Also ensure you are familiar with the procedure for making claims (for example, most policies stipulate that claims must be made within a certain time after completion of your journey). Once you have paid your deposit or full payment, certain fees will apply if you have to cancel your holiday (see the cancellation provisions in our terms and conditions). For this reason, you should take out insurance at the time of paying your deposit, which should then protect you in such a situation. Visas You will need a valid passport with you throughout the journey. Some nationalities will be required to pay a visitor fee (known as a reciprocity fee ) for entering Argentina the starting point of this voyage. This must be arranged online, prior to arriving in Buenos Aires. If you plan any side trips to other countries you will need to investigate visa requirements as it is your responsibility to ensure you have all required visas for your trip. Rules and regulations governing the issuance of visas are constantly changing and vary for different nationalities. You should check visa requirements with your travel agent or relevant consular authority well before traveling.
