2 CAMPSITE AND TRAIL INFORMATION August 5-13, 2017 CAMPSITE - The campsite is on a hay field at James Scott s Farm The 20 acre field is flat, there is tree line on all four sides but it is only accessible for tie lines from tree to trailer. The camp will open on Friday August 4, 2017 in the morning, but please do not come too early, - Only marking crews and ride managers will be allowed before Friday. Riders on the second half may come in after noon on Wednesday to allow the first half people time to break camp and move out. CSTR rules apply upon your entrance to the grounds. WATER PEOPLE WATER Please bring some of your own potable water and plan on renewing your own supply. We will not supply people water. HORSE WATER will pumped from nearby water sources. Please bring LARGE containers such as muck buckets to store water & please plan on bringing some of your own in with you to start out with. Water will not be distributed until after the camp jacks have set up their own camps. HAY WILL BE AVAILABLE FROM SATURDAY MORNING ON - please bring a Hay Net to help conserve and a tarp to cover hay at your campsite. You will be asked to help distribute the hay several times during the week. TRAILS - Trails will cover miles of woods trails and gravel roads in the Kenneth Dubuque Memorial State Forest. These are typical western MA trails, some hills, lots of woods roads and paved road crossings. We recommend that all horses be shod all around and consider pads on the front if you want to be cautious. Route sheets will be provided daily. We strongly urge both you and your horse to be "in condition". You are cautioned that the ride for the day is the ride for the day Per request of the Hawley Fire & Rescue, there will be NO Dam Loop this year because of the location and conditions. Everyone who rides must use the same trail each day. Most days will have a short day. Cell phone service is mostly non existent on trail. If you need a shorter day, plan on riding out for an hour or so and then returning on the same trail. MEALS We will serve a full breakfast and dinner on Sat, lunch and dinner on Sun, Mon, Tues, Thurs, Friday & Saturday. On Wed, we will serve a full breakfast and dinner and on the last Sun only a full breakfast will be served. Lunches will be served in camp and on the trail by reservation (signup sheets for trail lunch will be posted.). Dinner will be served at approximately 6:30 PM. Coffee will be available each morning in the camping area. Please do not make any special requests to the caterer. All concerns and questions should be directed to the CSTR officers or Board members AREA CONVENIENCES Nearest towns with big box stores are Greenfield to the northeast and Williamsburg & North Hampton to the southeast - Williamsburg & North Hampton go back out to Rte 112 and go south to Rte 9, then left on Rte 9, then follow to Williamsburg and then North Hampton. 4 DIRECTIONS DIRECTIONS Internet link to online map of area = Our camp is on a working hay field owned by James B. Scott, 86 Plainfield Rd., East Hawley, MA. The field is located at the junction of Plainfield Road and Watson Road. If you follow the directions below, this will put you in a position to take a straight shot into the field from the junction. You will be proceeding through the upper half of the first field to where our camp area is located. Watch for signs. The roads are narrow and coming in from the other direction would make the turn into the field difficult if not impossible. Clesson Brook Rd is the best route in, with the least amount of hills. FROM ROUTE 2/GREENFIELD MA: Take Rte 2 to into Shelburne Falls and watch for Rte 112 heading south towards Buckland, Buckland Four Corners and Ashfield. Watch for Clesson Brook Rd on the right in about 5 1/2 miles. Take a right on Clesson Brook Rd. It will become Buckland Rd. Follow for approximately 5 miles. Take a left on Plainfield Rd and you are about a mile from camp. At the fork in the road, drive straight into the field. FROM THE SOUTH, VIA INTERSTATE 91 In North Hampton, take Rte 9 north to Rte 112/116 north to Ashfield. In Ashfield, where Rte 116 turns right (there is a gas station down this road), you can turn left and take Hawley Rd to Ashfield Rd to Plainfield Rd, but there are a couple of good hills on this route. It would be better to continue up Rte 112 to a left on Clesson Brook Rd and follow above. Mileage is about the same. PAGE 4

6 Rules and Regulations August Ride These rules are two-fold; (1) by-laws and approved rules and (2) rules of courtesy. Often, rules like these seem to be too binding or constricting, especially if it's not what you normally do. Remember that as a club, the "face" we show to outsiders governs our acceptance at ride sites and on trails where we need permission to pass. Remember that we must live together as a small village. IN CAMP 1. All rules and regulations apply as of your arrival on the ride grounds 2. All horses should be haltered or bridled at all times. 3. Horses are not allowed near the food areas either in camp or on the trail. 4. In the camp area, horses should be ridden or driven no faster than a walk. Pay attention and use caution when passing horses that are tied or in fences. 5. Remember that the camp area must be shared by 100 horses and a like number of riders. Rigs, tie lines and fences should be placed so as to get maximum use from the acreage available. 6. Manure - Please clean your sites daily and thoroughly before you leave. Check with management for manure disposal during the ride 7. Generators - Generators may be run from 8 AM until 2 PM, and from 5 PM until 7:30 PM only 8. Traffic - Keep vehicle traffic in the field to a minimum. Moving around the field for general purposes should be confined to foot or bicycles. 9. FIRES - Depending on the weather, we may or may not get a permit for campfires - please ask before lighting a fire of ANY kind ON THE TRAIL 1. No riding on lawns - when riding on the edge of roads, stay off lawns and driveways 2. Keep to the edge of fields - any field! - and attempt to make only one path, not many tracks 3. NO SMOKING ON THE TRAIL 4. Ask to pass, and do so at a gait no faster than a trot - and no racing! 5. Horses are not allowed near the food areas either in camp or on the trail. GENERAL 1. When you leave the ride grounds, even if only for a short time, please appoint a caretaker for your horse - no horses are to be left unattended at any time. 2. Use common sense in dealing with sore and/or lame horses - open sores should be dealt with in as humane and sensible a manner as possible, especially if in the saddle or girth areas. Veterinarian is on call. 3. Daily lunch will be served in camp. If you want lunch on trail, you must make arrangements to either take a lunch with you or have it sent out on the rest stop truck. Rest Stop Truck will have water for horses and people. 4. Our camp is on a farm field belonging to the James Scott. Please respect their privacy 5. If you are not going to be in camp for dinner, please sign out with Pat Darmofal. Extra meal tickets for camp visitors can be obtained from Pat Darmofal. Please make arrangements in advance if possible. Extra meal availability is not guaranteed. 6. CSTR members not registered with the ride are allowed one overnight (no horse). Non-Members are not allowed on the grounds overnight. Requests for overnight stays by CSTR members must be registered with Pat Darmofal 7. CSTR Name Tags must be worn at all meals or you will not be fed. 8. NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED. PAGE 6

Do not deviate unless you have received permission to do so. If you have any questions or concerns, check with Jen Omasta before being inventive or creative with the trail route. There will be short cuts most days. Going out for an hour and then returning on the same trail is allowed. There will NOT be a dam loop this year. Horses are not to approach the rest stop truck. FIELD ETIQUETTE Limit the usage of vehicles for driving back and forth We don t want to stress the field more than necessary.. Be kind to your neighbor and considerate of trailer and paddock placement. Each horse must be in a separate paddock whether or not they are pasture mates at home. Horses must be haltered (neck collars permissible) while in their paddocks. Paddocks should be kept as close to 20 feet x 20 feet as possible. If the paddock is too large, you will be asked to downsize. Keep horses away from the food service area. PAGE 7
