1 Welcome to Schmeeckle Reserve! This 280-acre natural area is staffed by University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point students. The Reserve protects habitat for native plant and animal communities, serves as a resource for teaching and research, and provides recreational opportunities (walking, jogging, biking, cross-country skiing, nature photography, etc.). Six miles of trails wind through diverse habitats where visitors often see deer, birds, and other wildlife. The trails connect with the Green Circle, a 27-mile loop hiking and biking trail around the Stevens Point area. Enjoy your visit to the Schmeeckle Reserve. Please do not hesitate to ask the front desk staff for further information or assistance. The public areas of the Schmeeckle Reserve Visitor Center, including the meeting room, are fully accessible. Please let the front desk staff know if they can assist anyone in your group with special needs. Things to do... While meeting at Schmeeckle Reserve, enjoy activities the Reserve has to offer. Walk the Trails The Reserve has over 6 miles of hiking trails, ideal for exercise and fresh air during a meeting break. The paths wind through forests, wetlands, prairies, and an oak savanna. Just outside the visitor center, you can walk the 1/2-mile Trail of Reflections loop and ponder quotes from famous naturalists. A trail map is available at the front desk. Page 1

2 Experience the Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame Filled with interactive exhibits and intriguing information, the Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame is a must see. It is the only facility in the country that honors significant individuals in a state s conservation history. The exhibits bring you back in time to an era when resources seemed in endless supply. Experience the tragedy of a crackling forest fire, the serenity of a beautiful wilderness, and the excitement of the early wardens. The formal gallery contains plaques that commemorate individuals who have contributed to the state s conservation efforts. With its large windows, the gallery is also an excellent place to watch wildlife. Browse at the Browse Shop Our gift shop specializes in natural and cultural history items, including works by local artists and authors. The diverse inventory includes field guides, natural music selections, wooden carvings, cards, jewelry, walking sticks, shirts, stuffed animals, puppets, wooden flutes, bird feeders, and books and games for kids. How many people can fit in the meeting room? With tables in the room, a maximum of 30 people. Without tables (just chairs set up theater-style), a maximum of 40 people. What hours is the meeting room available? The meeting room can be reserved during regular visitor center hours, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every day (including weekends). How much does the meeting room cost? A use fee is charged based on the type of group making the reservation: UW-Stevens Point groups: Free* Local school and youth groups: Free* Nonprofit organizations/governmental agencies: $25 for 3 hours or less, $50 for more than 3 hours For-profit businesses/private events: $50 for 3 hours or less, $100 for more than 3 hour * Any group charging a participant fee (workshops, classes, etc.) will be charged $50 for 3 hours or less, $100 for more than 3 hours, regardless of the type. Corporate members of the Friends of Schmeeckle Reserve or organizational members of the Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame can use the room for free. Do certain groups have priority? Can my group be bumped? In rare circumstances, a meeting may need to be cancelled for Schmeeckle Reserve related events and programs. We will do everything possible to find an alternative meeting space for the group. How far in advance can I make a reservation? Reservations can be made six months out from today s date. Can we use the Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame for break-out sessions or food service? No, the adjacent Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame is public exhibit space and must remain open for visitors. Can we use the back deck for break-out sessions or food service? Yes, the back deck is available for meeting room use. However, it is public space and is used on a first-come, first-serve basis. What is provided in the meeting room? Padded chairs and moveable tables (set up as requested) Whiteboard and markers Ceiling-mounted digital projector and large projection screen A/V system with computer, speakers, and VCR/DVD player Laptop connector for A/V system Page 3

4 Wireless and wired Internet access (free, no password required) Speaker phone (please request prior to meeting). NOTE: This does not have conferencing capabilities. The speaker phone can dial out to one local or toll-free number... long distance calls are disabled. Groups will need to set up an external conferencing service at a toll-free number to call into. Copies ($.10 per copy at the front desk) Easel (we do not provide paper or markers) Organic fair-trade coffee and reusable mugs ($3 per 12-cup pot, $6 per 24-cup pot, must be ordered when placing a room request) Soda and juice (available in the meeting room mini-fridge for $1/can) Composting Bin (for non-meat food scraps) Garbage and recycle cans (near the front door) Drinking water (fountain near the front door) Large windows that open for natural airflow Room-specific thermostat for heating and cooling Extension cords and power strips What is NOT provided in the meeting room? Conference phone system (see speaker phone above) Printers Easel paper or markers (an easel is available) Plates, napkins, eating utensils, condiments, etc. Refrigerator space Catering or food service (see options below) Can we bring food and beverages in the meeting room? Is alcohol allowed? Groups are welcome to bring their own food and non-alcoholic beverages into the meeting room. Leave the room as clean as you found it. Garbage and recycling cans are located near the front door. NO alcoholic beverages allowed at any time (per university regulations) NO grilling is allowed at any time (per university regulations) Can we have food delivered or catered in? Yes, there are several caterers and restaurants that deliver in the Stevens Point area. Be sure to arrange for plates, napkins, utensils, cups, etc. to be delivered with your food. Can I smoke at Schmeeckle Reserve? No. Schmeeckle Reserve is part of UW-Stevens Point s tobacco-free campus. Tobacco products are not allowed inside or outside the meeting room, including the parking lot. Page 4
