1 2015/2016 The BCSF Snowmobile Excellence Awards The British Columbia Snowmobile Federation (BCSF) is pleased to present the BCSF Snowmobile Excellence Awards program to recognize exceptional contribution and support for the recreational activity of snowmobiling. The BCSF Snowmobile Excellence Awards will honor individuals, snowmobile clubs, associations and businesses in British Columbia that, in the recent past, have made a significant contribution towards showcasing the popularity and the overall appeal of the sport, have made a remarkable effort to promote solidarity and responsibility within the snowmobile community or who have offered exceptional quality of service to snowmobilers. Snowmobilers in every snowmobile club affiliated with the BCSF will have the opportunity to submit a nomination for nine (9) of the eleven (11) awards offered. These nominations will be submitted to a provincial panel of judges, comprised of five members, which will select the winners. The awards will be presented in the Fall at the BCSF General Meeting. 1
2 RULES AND REGULATIONS There are eleven (11) categories of BCSF Snowmobile Excellence Awards. The categories and conditions of admissibility are as follows: The BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Snowmobile Dealership. The BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Organized Snowmobile Related Company The BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Promotion and Development of Snowmobiling. The BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Snowmobile Club. The BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Snowmobile Family. The BCSF Pat Whiteway Award for Outstanding Snowmobiler The BCSF Excellence Award for Groomer of the Year The BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Snowmobile Tourism Promotion and Development. The BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Youth Contribution. The BCSF President s Award The BCSF Environment Award I II Nomination ballots for each of the BCSF Awards will be made available electronically to all clubs affiliated with the BCSF via , the website and in print format for Clubs that request them from the BCSF office at no cost. Snowmobile Clubs may request as many nomination ballots as they wish. These ballots may be distributed to member snowmobile clubs for internal nominations within each region to be submitted to the BCSF. The winners of each award category will be forwarded to the Canadian Council of Snowmobile Organizations (CCSO) nomination committee for inclusion in the Canadian Recognition Awards. III Nominations will be deemed valid only if: The official BCSF nomination ballot must be properly completed and submitted by a BCSF Member in good standing. Electronic submissions are both accepted and encouraged for ease of sharing information to the committee. The properly completed nomination ballot is sent to the BCSF Office via BCSF Website links or is ed to office@bcsf.org no later than January 15 th, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. (Please copy yourself for proof of date and time) 2
3 IV In order to proceed to the final validation of candidates and to the selection of the recipients of the BCSF Awards for which nominations may be submitted, the provincial panel of judges may be comprised of: One BCSF Executive Board member; One representative from a Southern Region (A BCSF member of a club of Region 4-9) One representative from a Northern Region (A BCSF member of a club in Region 1, Region 2, or Region 3) Two other Members of the BCSF, these could include board member, corporate, associate or media partners. V The provincial panel of judges will select the recipient of each BCSF Award no later than February 29 th, Immediately thereafter, the panel of judges will contact the recipient and the nominating club to advise them of their selection. VI By way of a press release in April 2016 or a snowmobile magazine article, the BCSF may announce publicly the recipients of the BCSF Excellence Awards that will be distributed at the Spring General Meeting & President s Gala. VII The names of the participants in the provincial panel of judges will not be divulged until the BCSF Awards special presentation. VIII In keeping with the goal of the Excellence Awards program, the panel of judges reserves the right, where it is deemed to be appropriate and justified, to select a nominee and appoint the title of Honourable Mention in any or all of the categories. This honour is to be bestowed to another nominee who, while not selected a formal award recipient, is deserving of a special mention in honour of the contributions made in the given category. 3
4 IX The BCSF reserves the right to not award a category if the nominees do not fit the criteria of the award or if a nominee is not received. If a nominee is not received by closing date the Board of the BCSF may nominate someone they would like to recognize that fits the criteria of the award. 4

6 The BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Snowmobile Dealership. The recipient of this award will be recognized for their exceptional customer and after-sales service, superior technical knowledge, superlative efforts to promote the sport, and strong ties to their local snowmobile clubs and community. A Snowmobile dealership must be an accredited dealer for one of the four principal snowmobile manufacturers, between April 1, 2014, and March 31, 2015, to receive consideration for the BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Snowmobile Dealership. 1) How many years has the snowmobile dealership been operating? 2) Tell us what you believe is most important to this snowmobile dealership. 3) Describe the dealer s involvement with the local snowmobile club(s) and/or community if no club. 4) What services/support does the dealer offer? a. 7 The BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Organized Snowmobile Related Company The recipient of this award will be recognized for their exceptional contribution, during the past year, to the promotion of snowmobiling. Nominees will be evaluated on their sponsorship of programs or projects in conjunction with the snowmobile community, government agencies, associations or the media; technological innovations that provide snowmobilers with greater comfort, safety or pricequality value; or initiatives leading to the expansion of snowmobiling in their community or the enhancement of its safety and pleasure. The following business types may be nominated for this award: snowmobile clothing, parts, accessories or industry supporting corporations. Excluded are the principal snowmobile manufacturers. A business must be in operation and/or do business in Canada between April 1, 2014, and March 31, 2015, to receive consideration for the BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Organized Snowmobile-related Company. 1) How many years has this company been in business? 2) How many years has the company been actively involved with organized snowmobiling? 3) Tell us what led the company to become involved in organized snowmobiling. 4) Describe how the company supports their snowmobile club or community. 5) What services/ does the company offer or support? a. 8 The BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Promotion and Development of Snowmobiling. The recipient of this award must be a member club of the BCSF, or a non-profit organization, which has shown outstanding achievement in the development and implementation of a program, original initiative or event and which will have been deemed a success by snowmobilers and/or nonsnowmobilers, and from which media recognition or financial benefits have contributed to increasing the image and exposure of snowmobiling and the growth of the sport in that area, region, or province. A member club with the BCSF or a non-profit organization must have been active between April 1, 2014, and March 31, 2015, to receive consideration for the BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Promotion and Development of Snowmobiling. 1) How long has this organization been in operation and what is its principal role? 2) Describe the most important activities/events organized by this organization in 2014 and/or 2015 that are directed at the promotion and development of snowmobiling. 3) If there are profits from events, what are the funds used for? 4) What distinguishes this business from other snowmobile organizations/non-profit organizations in the same community, region, or province? 5) How does this organization support and promote snowmobiling with in the community? Please provide details and specific examples in the last 12 months 8
9 The BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Snowmobile Club. The recipient of this award must be a member club of the BCSF, or a non-profit organization, which has shown outstanding achievement in the development and implementation of a program, original initiative or event and which will have been deemed a success by snowmobilers and/or nonsnowmobilers, and from which media recognition or financial benefits have contributed to increasing the image and exposure of snowmobiling and the growth of the sport in that area, region, or province. A member club must have been affiliated with the BCSF between April 1, 2014, and March 31, 2015, to receive consideration for the BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Snowmobile Club. 1) For how many years has this snowmobile club been in operation? 2) How many members are currently in the club? Has the membership increased over the past year? What does the club do to bring in new members? 3) How many kilometers of trail does the club maintain and have they developed or expanded the trail system in the past 12 months? 4) Describe how the club promotes safe and responsible riding for members and non members. 5) Outline any activity(s) the club has done in the past year to promote a positive image that snowmobilers care about the environment. 6) What are the three most important events organized by this club or association in 2014 and/or 2015 to promote the club or the region? Please provide details on how these projects or events support and promote snowmobiling within the community. Provide details and specific examples in the last 12 months. 7) What distinguishes this club from other clubs or snowmobile organizations in your community, region, or province? 9
10 The BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Snowmobile Family. The family receiving this award must belong to a member affiliated with the BCSF, and will have distinguished themselves in the following areas: volunteerism, leadership, safety, the environment, promotion of responsible snowmobiling and development and community outreach. A snowmobiling family must have been members of good standing in a member club affiliated with the BCSF, between April 1, 2014, and March 31, 2015 to receive consideration for the BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Snowmobile Family. 1) Please identify each family member and the number of years each has been involved with the sport. 2) What club does the family belong to and for how long? 3) What distinguishes this snowmobile family from others for this award? 4) Describe their volunteer activities with their local club or association under the headings of: Safety Trail development/maintance Environment Promotion Fund Raising 5) Describe three snowmobile club activities in which they have organized and or participated in the past year. 10
11 The BCSF Pat Whiteway Award for Outstanding Snowmobiler The recipient of this award must belong to a member club affiliated with the BCSF, and will have distinguished themselves in the following areas: volunteerism, leadership, safety, the environment, promotion of responsible snowmobiling and development and community outreach. This award is for an individual who has shown an extraordinary level of dedication to improving the sport of snowmobiling in BC and who exemplifies the high standards and selflessness that Pat Whiteway maintained during his lifetime. The award is meant to be the highest award available to a BC snowmobiler. The recipient must have been involved in organized snowmobiling for most of their adult life or their impact on the sport in BC so significant that time involved could not be overlooked. A snowmobiler nominated for an award must have been a member of good standing during the previous or the current season, in a member club affiliated with the BCSF, to receive consideration for the BCSF Pat Whiteway Award for Outstanding Snowmobiler 1) For how many years has the individual been actively involved in organized snowmobiling? 2) What club are they a member of and for how long? 3) Describe three snowmobiling activities or events in which they have organized/ or participated in the past year. 4) Describe their snowmobile volunteer activities under the headings of: Leadership Safety Promotion of responsible riding Environment Community Outreach 5) Why should this individual be named this year s exceptional snowmobiler? 6) In 1 or 2 sentences, summarize how this individual made snowmobiling better? 11
12 The BCSF Excellence Award for Groomer of the Year Nominate a person that is a BCSF member and either is a groomer operator, groomer maintenance, grooming program organizer or grooming fundraiser. This award is designed specifically for the individual that has given an exemplary effort in maintaining a local grooming program. 1) For how many years has the individual been actively involved in organized snowmobiling? 2) What club are they a member of and for how long? 3) How many kilometers of trail does the individual help manage? 4) Describe three snowmobiling activities or events in which they have organized/ or participated in the past year. 5) Describe their snowmobile volunteer activities under the headings of: Leadership Safety Environment Trail Management 6) Why should this individual be named this year s Groomer of the Year? 7) In 1 or 2 sentences, summarize how this individual made snowmobiling better? 12
13 The BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Snowmobile Tourism Promotion and Development. The recipient of this award must be a tourism operator, or not-for-profit agency, association or organization, which has shown outstanding innovation and achievement in the development and implementation of a snowmobile tourism program or original initiative that, has resulted in positive media recognition or increased participation from snowmobilers and/or non-snowmobilers. The net result is to have been a contribution to increasing the image and exposure of snowmobiling and the growth of the sport in that area, region, or community. In so doing, the recipient must have demonstrated a willingness to work closely with members of the organized snowmobiling community. An association, business or agency nominated for an award must be in operation and/or do business in British Columbia between April 1, 2014, and March 31, 2015 and have demonstrated willingness to work closely with the organized snowmobiling community to receive consideration for the BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Snowmobile Tourism Promotion and Development. 1) How long has this business, organization or agency been operating? 2) How long have they been involved in developing or promoting snowmobile tourism? 3) What is their level of involvement with the local or provincial organized snowmobiling organization? 4) Briefly outline the nature of their program or initiative. 5) How has their program or initiative had a positive impact in attracting non-local snowmobilers? 6) How has their program or initiative been successful in attracting new participants to the sport? 7) How have they been successful in raising the positive image and profile of recreational snowmobiling in your local area, province/territory, or across Canada? 13
14 The BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Youth Contribution. The recipient of this award must be under 18 years of age and be a member or family member of a snowmobile club affiliated with the BCSF. They must be able to show examples demonstrating their continued participation and dedication towards the continued growth of snowmobiling as a family based leisure activity. Other projects can also be considered to demonstrate involvement in snowmobiling. The Snowmobiling Youth award nominee must have been a member in good standing or a member of a family who has been members in good standing of a snowmobile club affiliated with the BCSF between April 1, 2014, and March 31, 2015 to receive consideration for the BCSF Excellence Award for Outstanding Youth Contribution. 1) How old is the individual? 2) What snowmobile organization/club is the individual associated with? 3) How long has the nominee been actively involved in snowmobiling? 4) Briefly describe some of the snowmobile projects/events that the nominee has been actively involved in over the past year. 5) Describe their volunteer activities with their local club under the headings of: Leadership Safety Promotion Environment Trail Development Fund Raising Youth involvement 6) How has this individual promoted the further development of snowmobiling as a family activity? 14
15 The BCSF President s Award The recipient of this award is selected by the BCSF Executive Committee and must have shown outstanding leadership and support of organized snowmobiling in British Columbia. The BCSF Environment Award The recipient of this award is selected by the BCSF Wildlife Committee and must have shown outstanding leadership and support of the environment and organized snowmobiling in Canada.
