2 Sierra C.P.T. Focusing on Leadership! The fundamentals of scouting, the ethics and knowledge of the outdoors, and the communities that we live in are all building of the character of the youth of tomorrow. As a core objective, this program seeks to develop leadership skills in the participating youth. All participants must be between 15 and 21 years of age. No exceptions! About C.P.T. C.P.T. is part of our joint effort with Camp Whitsett to continue building the character of older youth through activities and challenges which will hold their interest. As young adults get wrapped up in high school life, they often lose interest in scouting or become bogged down with other activities. This program is designed to give older scouts the opportunity to meet others of their own age, and to give them an experience that they will remember for the rest of their lives. C.P.T. is a leadership development program, which focuses on promoting and developing individual and group skill sets using high adventure-based activities as a catalyst. The C.P.T. program is a week-long progression of adventure activities which will include backpacking, mountain biking, a rock climbing experience, and many other challenging outdoor elements. In C.P.T. emphasis will be placed on group decision making, teamwork, wilderness ethics, risk management, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. As part of the design of this program, the specific schedule of activities changes from year to year and is not announced. This program requires a minimum of 6 participants, with a maximum group size of 10. The program develops differently each week based upon the unique dynamics of each group of participants. Two trained staff members will guide the program based on the skills and needs of the group. Older scouts may attend camp and the C.P.T. program as individuals, or may participate during the week that your troop is at Camp Whitsett. In either case, they will leave Camp Whitsett on Monday morning and return Friday evening after a fun, high adventurefilled week. Due to the strenuous and challenging nature of the program all participants are asked to prepare for a challenging week. All participants must be age by the June 1st of the year attending, as well as meet the Sierra Expeditions height/weight requirements.

I acknowledge that outdoor adventure-based activities such as whitewater rafting and kayaking, flatwater canoeing and kayaking, and rock climbing, entail known and unanticipated risks that could result in physical or emotional injury, paralysis, death, or damage to myself, to property, or to third parties. I understand that such risks simply cannot be eliminated without jeopardizing the essential qualities of the activity. The risks include, among other things: whitewater rapids will be encountered; your boat could turn over and/or you could have to swim rapids risking collision with rocks and entanglement in trees; head injuries can occur; you can slip or fall during a hike, resulting in damage to equipment or personal injury; exposure to the natural elements can be uncomfortable and/or harmful; you should be aware that this exposure could cause sunburn, dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and heat cramps; also prolonged exposure to cold water can result in hypothermia; exposure to potentially dangerous wildlife, insects, plants; and accidental drowning is also a possibility. Other hazards include, but are not limited to: slips and falls while walking on uneven terrain; being struck by rock fall or other objects dislodged or thrown from above; the use of climbing ropes and equipment; the forces of nature, including lightning and rapid weather changes; the risks of falling off the rock; the risks of exposure to insect bites; the risk of cold, including hypothermia; my own physical condition, and the physical exertion associated with this activity. Furthermore, SSI employees have difficult jobs to perform. They seek safety, but they are not infallible. They might be unaware of a participant's fitness or abilities. They might misjudge the weather or other environmental conditions. They may give incomplete warnings or instructions, and the equipment being used might malfunction. 2. I expressly agree and promise to accept and assume all of the risks existing in this activity. My participation in this activity is purely voluntary, and I elect to participate in spite of the risks. 3. I hereby voluntarily release, forever discharge, and agree to indemnify and hold harmless SSI from any and all claims, demands, or causes of action, which are in any way connected with my participation in this activity or my use of SSI's equipment or facilities, including any such claims which allege negligent acts or omissions of SSI. 4. Should SSI or anyone acting on their behalf be required to incur attorney's fees and costs to enforce this agreement, I agree to indemnify and hold them harmless for all such fees and costs. 5. I certify that I have adequate insurance to cover any injury or damage I may cause or suffer while participating, or else I agree to bear the costs of such injury or damage myself. I further certify that I am willing to assume the risk of any medical or physical condition I may have. 6. In the event that I file a lawsuit against SSI, I agree to do so solely in the State of California, and I further agree that the substantive law of California shall apply in that action without regard to the conflict of law rules of that State. I agree that if any portion of this agreement is found to be void or unenforceable, the remaining document shall remain in full force and effect. By signing this document, I acknowledge that if anyone is hurt or property is damaged during my participation in this activity, I may be found by a court of law to have waived my right to maintain a lawsuit against SSI on the basis of any claim from which I have released them herein. I have had sufficient opportunity to read this entire document. I have read and understood it, and I agree to be bound by its terms.
