1 WEST JORDAN PARKS, RECREATION AND TRAILS MASTER PLAN Advisory Committee Meeting #2 MONDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2018, 6:00 P.M.; PARKS DEPT. The project schedule was reviewed, noting that the project schedule was pushed back due to the large delay for the surveys. This was followed by a summary of current and projected demographics of the City and a preliminary analysis of the existing parks, recreation, trails and open space, including level-of-service for parks and typical park standards. A copy of the presentation materials have been attached to these notes. The following is a summary of comments from the meeting: Looking at the linear parks and washes in City, the east side of the City doesn t have much to connect. There are more opportunities on the west side, and likely higher expectations. There s a 68 acre site in the Sycamores Open Space with lots of potential for activities like mountain biking, urban camping, natural play. There s a 5 to 7 acre parcel on the east side with some smaller potential. More fields will likely be added at Ron Wood Park. There is the proposed park site in the Maples to help meet needs on the west side. The City is breaking even right now on the cemetery while they still have plots to sell, In the future, this will become more of a challenge after the plots are all sold. The City didn t have to pay for the land for the current cemetery. Need to look at long-term management. Look at the City of Riverton as an example. The question of whether the City can charge impact fees for the soccer complex came up. David Murphy indicated that the City pays for maintenance of that facility, so that can and should be factored in.
