3 rusty garrett Rusty Garrett has been chief weather anchor for KWTX-TV since 989 and heads up the most sophisticated forecast center in Central Texas! A native Texan, Rusty began his television career in his hometown of Victoria, Texas in the early 980 s and has been head of weather departments in Longview/ Tyler and Lufkin/Nacogdoches before coming to News 0. Rusty s community involvement has made him one of the most recognized and beloved personalities in the area. He has served on the board of directors for the United Way and The American Red Cross. For 23 years, he has tirelessly spearheaded a 6 county school weather safety program called Project Tornado. In this role he speaks to tens of thousands of children in school districts throughout the area. B,L Day 4: Glacier National Park Today we visit Glacier National Park, a setting of lush forests and spectacular mountains that reach 6,000 feet in elevation. Nearly 50 glaciers and 200 lakes are reminders of the last ice age. Wildlife includes bighorn sheep, mountain goats, elk and moose. We board the park s vintage red touring cars for a journey on one of the world s most scenic routes, the Going-to-the-Sun Road. Tonight our accommodations are near Glacier. B,L Day 5: Gates of the Mountains The scenery envelopes us during a boat ride through the three mile long canyon known as the Gates of the Mountains. L Day 6: Yellowstone This afternoon we arrive at West Yellowstone, gateway to America s first national park. The IMAX Theatre presentation in West Yellowstone provides a fascinating introduction to Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone was established in 872 to protect a large variety of wildlife and preserve the world s most extraordinary collection of geysers and hot springs. We stay in West Yellowstone this evening. Day 7: Yellowstone A park guide joins us today to explore Yellowstone. We stop at Old Faithful, the most famous geyser in the world, before viewing the paintpots, bubbling hot springs mixed with clay. Have your camera ready to capture stunning views of the Upper and Lower Yellowstone Falls and the multicolored Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Our scenic drive takes us through the Hayden Valley, a region of lush forest meadows. Watch for bison and other wildlife! Later, we settle into our hotel in Jackson for a comfortable two night stay. Day 8: Grand Tetons This morning we visit Grand Teton. At the Craig Thomas Discovery & Visitor Center, there's time to view a video and explore the fantastic exhibit on the history of Grand Teton. We make several photo stops and visit the Chapel of the Transfiguration, a rustic log church with glorious views of the majestic Tetons. Our included dinner tonight features a covered wagon ride in Cache Creek Canyon. Enjoy a tasty barbecue cookout along with the music and songs of the old West! B,D Day 9: To Salt Lake City Another scenic drive takes us from Jackson into Utah and Salt Lake City. Tonight we celebrate with our new friends at a special farewell dinner.
