Gilwell Ada s Hoeve Gilwell Ada's Hoeve has been one of the most beautiful campsites of Scouting in the Netherlands for over 90 years. It's a campsite made by and made for Scouts. Unique location Gilwell Ada's Hoeve is outdoor living to the fullest! On site you find over 25 campsites and three accommodations. The sheltered small, medium to large campsites all have their own fireplace. Each campsite is a private area within

- 2 - the national park of Ada's Hoeve. Additionally, Ada's Hoeve has various large playgrounds, a house and two cabins. Camping at Ada's Hoeve also means camping near the river De Vecht. Both rivers, De Vecht and Regge, offer plenty of water entertainment: swimming, rafting and canoeing, it is all possible! We also have a large stock of pioneering wood, barrels to build your own raft, a shop full of camping supplies and plenty more. Adventure The rural and wooded surrounding simply asks for adventure, for example hiking. The city of Ommen is a wonderful town, especially during summer! You can also rent bicycles, canoes, tilt- carts and horses. Since 1923 Scouts have been camping at Gilwell Ada's Hoeve. Memories are everywhere! You will notice that every campsite has its own name for a special reason. Ask the camp staff or try figuring it out yourself. Boy Scouts from Singapore 'planted' an everlasting memory at the site Jongensveld. It is a totem pole of 13 metres. Scouts, but also non- Scouts love to camp at Ada's Hoeve, make international friends, share the best experiences ever and have fun! See you soon! Location of Centre: l Maps, directions on how to get to the centre, latitude and longitude (for plotting on World Map)

You can reach us by phone at +31 (0) By car In most cases you will drive to Ommen via one of the main roads A28, N340 or N348. When you arrive in the centre of Ommen, turn right and cross the bridge (turn left if you come from Hardenberg). Turn right again straight after the bridge, this is the Zwolseweg. After approximately a kilometre you see campsite Gilwell Ada s Hoeve at your right hand side. From Hellendoorn or Den Ham, turn left before the bridge, this is the Zwolseweg. After approximately a kilometre you see campsite Gilwell Ada s Hoeve at your right hand side. By bike Ommen has plenty of beautiful bike paths and tracks. You can reach Ommen from all directions by bike. We advise you to consult a proper road map travelling by bike. By train Every 30 minutes trains arrive from Zwolle and Emmen to Ommen station. Gilwell Ada s Hoeve is situated at a minutes walking distance from Ommen station. Walk down the Stationsweg and turn to the left before the end, this is Het Laar. Contact information (address, , telephone, website): Buitencentrum Gilwell Ada's Hoeve Zwolseweg BC Ommen The Netherlands Phone +31 (0) E- mail: info@adashoeve.nl Website: Website (in English): Latitude/Longitude N E Environmental features of the Centre: The campsite of Gilwell Ada s Hoeve has been managed with a personal commitment to sustainability. Ensuring that the current generation can benefit from this wonderful forestland, but also all future generations. Sustainable management is needed to successfully maintain the quality of life on our

- 5 - planet. Ada s Hoeve offers Scouts the possibility to camp in a natural environment, to attend sustainable programmes and shows sustainability in practice. This way, Scouts are in direct contact with nature. Purpose Ada s Hoeve wants to become a leading partner in sustainability. Not only for Scouting Nederland, but also for comparable organisations and other institutes. We want to offer a natural environment where people learn playfully how important sustainability is. Learn by doing. Together we continually work on improving the sustainability at Ada s Hoeve. We bear in mind, that it is of course of utmost importance that all visitors look back on a wonderful and pleasant stay at Ada s Hoeve, that is exactly what our staff wants to achieve. Access to surrounding environmental places of interest: On Gilwell Ada s Hoeve we have a special field for playing, sports and games, called: Gulden Roede. Gulden Roede is next to the river the Vecht, so water games are also a refreshing option. You are likely to bring your own sports and play items, however you can also rent them at Gilwell Ada s Hoeve. If you go outside the campsite, you find that Ommen is surrounded by woods, small sand dunes and agricultural areas. Despite of tourists in the summer, it is a quit area where you can make long trails. Camping at Ada's Hoeve also means camping near the river De Vecht. Both rivers, De Vecht and Regge, offer plenty

- 6 - of water entertainment: swimming, rafting and canoeing, it is all possible! We also have a large stock of pioneering wood, barrels to build your own raft. Environmental Education Programmes Available Unguided environmental education programme: Unguided environmental education programme examples and samples: l A documented tour around the campsite in a 2 hours walk where you learn about the history and nature of the campsite. l Five beautiful walking tours start at Gilwell Ada s Hoeve. These hikes take you through the wonderful countryside of the province Overijssel. Three trails offer the possibility to stay overnight at another campsite. and eng Samurai, the Japanese discoverer of nature Are you born to be a discoverer of nature? And would you like to use all your senses? Then, the Samurai workshop is a must! Here you will feel, see, smell, hear, taste and discover unforgettable things. activities/740- samurai- the- japanese- discoverer- of- nature What s that in my tent?

- 7 - Are you curious about all the tiny wildlife in Gilwell Ada s Hoeve? Rent the backpack What s that in my tent?. Per team you will discover what kind of insects you have seen wandering, flying and crawling around. activities/741- what- s- that- in- my- tent Animal tracking Gilwell Ada s Hoeve is host to you, but also to many animals. Do you want to know what kind of animals? Have a good look at their footprints, droppings, leftovers, hairs or feathers and listen to the animal sounds. In the summer this activity can best be done on the other side of the Zwolseweg, as Gilwell Ada s Hoeve will become too crowded for animals. activities/742- animal- tracking The taste of nature Have you ever wondered how a nettle tastes? During this activity we will explain which plants and flowers are eatable. And with some good recipes you can make your own delicious meal. activities/743- the- taste- of- nature Guided environmental education programme: Guided environmental education programme examples and samples: If there is staff available you can make an appointment for a guided tour. The campsite has been around for more than 90 years, so we have many stories to tell. Environmental Management of the Centre (including examples of policy and practices, include website links where appropriate): The campsite of Gilwell Ada s Hoeve has been managed with a personal commitment to sustainability. Ensuring that the current generation can benefit from this wonderful forestland, but also all future generations. Sustainable management is needed to successfully maintain the quality of life on our planet. Ada s Hoeve offers Scouts the possibility to camp in a natural environment, to attend sustainable programmes and show sustainability in practice. This way, Scouts are in direct contact with nature. Main achievements to date: Inform and educate all visitors of Gilwell Ada s Hoeve about sustainable camping on our campsite. They also need to know about the protected area thanks to the lively plant and animal life. Inform them about our ECO activities.

- 8 - Waste disposal area is divided in paper, plastic, glass, etc. We call it the Environment Street. Part of our toilet facilities have LED lighting. Our policy plan is ready and connected to the forest management plan. Create awareness about the objectives of SCENES / sustainable camping online at Goals for the future: Install energy efficient lighting in all buildings onsite. Switch to sustainable generated energy. Protect part of our campsite to maintain the rare plant and animal life (Gagelveld, paddenpoel and Welpenbad revitalize and maintain). Development of a registration system (plan- do- check- act). Make a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) statement in the staff meeting. Languages the centre can offer activities in: Netherlands, German and English.
