1 10 Oswald Road Llandudno Junction Conwy LL31 9EP Telephone: WALES WELSH 3 PEAKS CHALLENGE Wales is a place of myths and legends and home to some of the best castles ineurope. It also has some of the most rugged and challenging mountains in Britain. The Welsh 3 Peaks Challenge takes in the three peaks of Wales Snowdon in North Wales, Cadair Idris in Mid Wales, and Pen Y Fan in South Wales. Our Welsh Three Peaks Challenge begins on Snowdon the highest mountain in Wales. Before beginning your challenge your guide will brief your team and check everyone has all the correct kit. SNOWDON (1,085M ) - 14KM Our challenge begins on the highest mountain in Wales, Snowdon or Yr Wyddfa in Welsh, standing at 1085m. Snowdonia is unique for its bio-diversity of plants and wildlife and with breath taking views from the summit is a perfect way to start your Welsh 3 peaks challenge. Our ascent route will be on the Pyg track which rewards us with those classic Snowdon views. The ascent should take approximately 2hrs. Once on the summit we will have time for a photo and enjoy the views before starting our decent down either the Llanberis Path or Miners Track. The descent should take approximately 2hrs. Approx 4-5hrs walking Cadir Idris (893M) Cadir Idris (the chair of Idris) is in reference to a giant of Welsh mythology who was said to have used Llyn Cau as an enormous armchair. Legend has it that anyone who sleeps on the Summit will awaken a madman or poet. Our route to the summit of Cadir Idris will be via the Minffordd Path the route starts on the southern side of the mountain, using this ascent route past Llyn Cau and along the rim of Craig Cau to the summit Penygadair (Top of the Chair).Once on the summit you are rewarded with stunning views over Snowdonia and the hills of Shropshire. Time permitting, we will complete the horseshoe route a total of 8 miles Approx 4-5hrs walking Pen y Fan (886M) Our final summit on the Welsh 3 Peaks Challenge, Pen Y Fan is the highest mountain in South Wales and the Brecon Beacons. Being lowest mountain on the challenge Pen Y Fan still deserves respect as it can be a very challenging mountain in poor conditions. On a good day there are great views over the Brecon Beacons. The ascent of our final summit starts from the Story arms and slowly climbs to Corn Du with a short 50mt scramble to the summit. Once on the summit of our final summit we have time to take a group photo and celebrate our achievement, before making our down to our waiting vehicle. Approx 2-3hrs walking Upon completion of your challenge a transferred to Cardiff can be provided.

4 Adventurous Ewe - Welsh 3 Peaks Challenge Q&A s What are the group sizes? Our maximum size group is 12 per Mountain Leader Who will be leading the group? We employ experienced and fully qualified Mountain Leaders to accompany and lead you. They are mountain first aid trained and have extensive experience in leading in the mountains and the three peaks challenge. They will be ultimately responsible for your safety on the mountain and the rest of the group. They will be carrying full safety equipment and mountain first aid kits with them. How fit do I need to be? Training and a good level of mountain walking fitness is definitely required, this is not for the fainthearted. This is a tough challenge physically and mentally draining. As much preparation and training you put in beforehand the better chance of success you have. Trekking fitness is specific to trekking but a general overall fitness is a good start. The ideal training for mountain walking is getting out there and actually walking in the hills. However, if you do not have the luxury of living in the hills or time to go out, then the stairs at home (or an office block of flats with lots of stairs) are a great place to start training. Most training should be part of an ongoing lifestyle but if this is not the case then you should begin training 3-6 months prior to the challenge and gradually build up as suggested. Step training advice is given below. Remember to use the walking boots that you will be walking in after the first month of training to get them worn in. Start with 3 x 20minute steady walks weekly, increasing each month by 5 minutes. What type of footwear should I be wearing? The choice of walking footwear is incredibly important and should not be decided on price alone. The terrain is uneven and can be very rough so it is vital that you use a pair of strong canvas or leather boots with good ankle support, not trekking trainers, for your challenge. Not only the boots but the socks that you wear are also very important and it is worth investing in some good pairs of socks. Avoid cotton, trekking or good quality sports socks are advised as are a thin wicking sock to wear underneath if your prone to blisters, these are designed to draw the moisture away from your feet. Wearing your boots and socks during your training period on and off the hills will inform you of whether they are suitable for the challenge. How do we get to and from the challenge? Pick up from the local train station in Bangor is available on arrival in Snowdonia. On completion of your challenge there will be a transfer to Cardiff if arranged on booking. Private transfers to and from the challenge are also available for groups, please notify us on when booking. What happens if I fall ill, can t keep up or there is an emergency? The Mountain leaders well trained and experienced and managing situations on the hill should they need to get outside assistance for example 'mountain rescue' they all carry mobile phones and also radios for communication with the minibus drivers. The Mountain Leader will always keep the group together for maximum safety on each peak and set a sensible pace for all to achieve this challenge. However, if your struggling you must be honest with yourself and the leader remember the top of the mountain is only halfway! How many breaks will be taken during the trek and for how long? The timing of breaks is quite liberal and there will be scheduled breaks for 5minutes, the exact times and places of your breaks will very much depend on the weather and the well-being of your group. When ascending and descending in order to maintain a healthy and steady pace.
5 Will we stop along the way between mountains? Yes. The minibus driver must have a break by law and this is always at a service station giving you a chance to stretch your legs and get purchase more food! What food and drinks are included? We include all drinking water and hot drinks and snacks on finishing each mountain. General Wellbeing Here are a few tips to remember while trekking. Hydration is important. Drink plenty of water Eat plenty to keep energy Trekking poles are a great way to support the knees and provide stability. Honesty, if you feeling unwell at any point please let someone know, we want to make sure everyone remains fit and healthy whilst trekking. What is the weather likely to be like? The mountain weather in the U.K. can be very changeable, it can be Glorious sunshine down at the base but be wet and windy on the summit. It is not uncommon for it to change from clear blues skies to rain and fog in moments. It is important to follow the advice we give and carry the correct kit (please see kit list) What do you do to protect the environment? We limit the impact we have on the surrounding environment and stick to paths so as not to cause further erosion on the mountain. We will ensure that all rubbish is disposed of responsibly and take all rubbish away with us. What time does the challenge start? We will start our first mountain Snowdon approximately 5.30am What time does the challenge finish? We aim to finish on Pen Y Fan between 6-7pm on Saturday. What s the luggage allowance? As no formal clothes are needed, your bag should be kept to the absolute minimum details on what to pack are provided in your kit list. You will leave your main bag on the bus while you trek on each peak, room on the minibus is at a premium so the less the better.
Grab this opportunity to pit yourself against the spectacular landscape of the Jurassic Coast in this impressive yet quite tough one day challenge.
